Doubts on Duretto for 2018 Melbourne Cup
Doubts have been cast over Duretto taking his place in this year's Melbourne Cup with Racing Victoria stewards confirming the galloper will undergo a bone scan on Tuesday.
The Andrew Balding-trained international pulled up lame in its left fore leg following a track gallop at Werribee International Horse Centre on Saturday.
RV stewards have advised that the horse will undergo a bone scan at the University of Melbourne Equine Centre on Tuesday 30 October, in a bid to determine the cause of the lameness.
Duretto has been restricted to box rest since Saturday and will remain that way until the scans are conducted on Tuesday.
The son of Manduro made his Australian debut in the Group One Caulfield Cup (2400m), running a creditable fourth behind Best Solution, beaten 2.85L.
Duretto is currently quoted as a $13 chance for the Melbourne Cup with BetEasy.
