Well-fancied flops and forgives from Saturday's racing

We assess the beaten runs of some of the more fancied runners from Saturday's racing, and decide whether they're worth forgiving, or if we should bypass them next time out (or if they're sitting perilously close to the sack file #JurysOut).

FORGIVE

I'm A Steel ($3.70) - Rosehill R2 (1100m)

Handy filly that was stepping up to Highway grade at just her second start and it went pear shaped. Wasn’t given the greatest of rides from Quayde Krogh as she struck interference from back in the field. She wouldn’t have won but likely finishes in the placings but the stable has a big opinion of the horse and she’ll bounce back. Did pull up lame in the off foreleg.

King Of Dubai ($7) - Rosehill R4 (1300m)

Was forced to race wide without cover from the 1100m but thought he stuck on gamely to grab fourth position. Was only beaten 1.6 lengths so with a better run in transit, the Jason Coyle-trained galloper would have gone close to winning.

Kitty Chat ($4.80) - Rosehill R5 (1200m)

Unable to get a spot up on the speed which took away her best asset. She was also up from maiden company against some genuine Saturday-class mares and did pull up with a poor recovery too. With a drop in grade, expect her to bounce back to the winners' stall.

Party Spirit ($4.80F) - Gold Coast R1 (1200m)

She'd won three straight coming in to deservedly be fav here in this race, and was humbled a mere 1.3L after being keen in the run - also pulled up with mild heat stress so very forgivable performance. And cast a plate in the run too.

Rothfire ($3.60F) - Gold Coast R4 (1300m)

Went via the cape here, the G1 winner, and still managed to find the line OK for 4th with the 61kg impost (giving a stack of weight to the remainder). The barrier draw was the story of the race for him.

Prince Of Boom ($3.50F) - Gold Coast R6 (1100m)

Did a fair bit of work at the start of the race, and that told late - still, was 4th at the 150m and managed to keep those behind him at bay to hold that position on the line.

Chrysaor ($4.40F) - Gold Coast R9 (1400m)

Probably gotta forgive the entire race after the drama, with horses loaded, unloaded, returning to stalls and repeating the dose. Cast a plate in running, and connections have already said he'll now head for a spell.

Zarastro ($5EF) - Gold Coast R10 (1400m)

Zarastro had barely put a hoof wrong for some time (went 7: 5-2-0 in 2023!), got across from the wide draw to lead (like jockey Angela Jones did with success in R1) only to weaken and run 3.1L 7th. Forgivable given the draw.

Girls Girls Girls ($2.70) - Flemington R5 (2000m)

The three-year-old filly was heavily supported by punters but was one of the first runners found wanting when they went for home at the top of the straight in a slowly run affair, the $2.70 favourite whacked away to finish fifth and was a disappointing result for punters but I think she's worth another chance in a race run quicker up front.

Miracle Spin ($2.40) - Flemington R9 (1600m)

Got a long way back and wasn't able to produce a race-winning burst when presented on the sprint to the finish, had a bit of work to do as the widest runner when they turned for home and slowly chipped away at the leaders without ever threatening. I think his best comes over a bit further and capable of bouncing back.

FORGET (SACK)

Afterlight ($10) - Rosehill R5 (1200m)

Ran well again but she’s just not up to Saturday level if she is going to be winning. Even effort to run fourth but that doesn’t help the punters.

Aristonous ($8) - Rosehill R6 (1800m)

Quite a significant drifter in the market. Did cop a shorten up by Zac Lloyd aboard Floating but he wasn’t going good enough anyway.

Pereille ($4.20) - Rosehill R9 (1200m)

Saturday’s runner-up finish was his seventh 2nd from 13 starts. Had his chance before being grabbed late by Union Army.

JURY'S OUT

Luncies ($5.50) - Rosehill R7 (2000m)

Rarely far off but he’s now got one win from his last 27 starts. Was a bit one-paced at the end of the 2000m on Saturday.

Barracuda ($3.30F) - Gold Coast R3 (1000m)

Felt he had his chance here, tucked in behind a hot speed but couldn't run down the leaders. Whether that was due to ability or pattern remains to be seen.

Revolutionary Miss / Far Too Easy (both $5EF) - Gold Coast R10 (1400m)

Revolutionary Miss didn't jump the greatest, but did muster to a nice position with cover so did get an economical run from J-Mac thereafter. Every chance. She had been freshened for this, and ran In Secret to within 1.5L fresh last year so probably a slight letdown here.

Far Too Easy had far too much to do late, as he far often does! Mammoth run from the back, but 4th-place doesn't pay the bills (for most punters anyway). While he excites with the bursts from back in the pack, it means he can get beat if pattern / timing is against them.

Keane Enuff ($3.40) - Flemington R4 (1000m)

Never really looked likely and was under early pressure at the 400m, battling his way to a rather plain fifth. Has proved costly for punters a few times now since an impressive debut win, beaten at $3.10, $4.00 and $3.40 - jury is definitely out and proving a tricky one for punters to trust.
