Magic Millions on track for Saturday

The fields have been released for the three feature Magic Millions races as officials grow more confident that the meeting will be staged as scheduled on Saturday.

Magic Millions Managing Director Stephen Silk said everything pointed to Saturday's $4.3 million raceday going ahead.

"The Magic Millions Raceday is all systems go," Silk said. "The track has received 28mm of rain in the past 24 hours."

"The track is holding up really well with the rain and the forecast for the coming days is for improving conditions."

Andrew Eggleston, Chairman of the Gold Coast Turf Club, reconfirmed that his track "was the best wet weather track in Australia."

The latest forecast issued from the Bureau of Meteorology suggests that the recent rain will ease to just a shower of two through the next couple of days before a mostly fine day and 28 degrees on Saturday.

"Things are still looking positive for the races on Saturday and nothing has changed with our yearling sale which commences tomorrow."

"We have some outstanding youngsters to go under the hammer and the first lot will go under the hammer from 11am," Silk summed up.

A capacity field of 16 plus five emergencies has accepted for Saturday's $2 million BMW Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m).

The $1 million Gold Coast Magic Millions 3YO Guineas (1400m) has also attracted a capacity field of 16 runners and five emergencies.

Such was the demand for a place in the field for both races some 15 horses were balloted out of the events.

And a quality line up of 10 gallopers will fight it out in the $400,000 R.M.Williams Cup (1400m). They include Group One winners Captain Sonador and Phelan Ready.
