Australian-based trainers and syndicates have hit the ground running on day one of the Tattersalls Autumn Horses In Training Sale at Newmarket.

Seven lots were purchased by Australian-based buyers on the first day of the five day sale, headlined by a 140,000 guineas (approx. $250,000 AUD) purchase by Ciaron Maher Bloodstock.

Kings Valley - a lightly-raced two-year-old son of Territories - will head to the Maher's Warwick Farm stable.

The colt - previously trained by Ollie Sangster - has had four-career starts including a third and second at Sandown.

"He's very lightly-raced, inspecting him he was clean-limbed, he had good feet and he's sound - he moved really well," Bloodstock Manager Will Bourne said.

"When speaking to Ciaron he was quite keen on him."

It sees Maher continue a strategy of purchasing overseas horses for racing in Australia, with overseas imports continuing to dominate feature staying events such as the Caulfield and Melbourne Cup.

"Ciaron's done really out of the sale, he's trained a lot of nice horses from here. Future History qualified the other day for the Melbourne Cup, that's fresh in his mind, Floating Artist (also) came fourth in the Cup (2021)," Bourne said.

"Overall in Australia, you look at the Caulfield Cup on the weekend, I think there was one Australian horse in it out of a field of 18.

"You need to come here to buy horses for those staying distances in Australia."

Dominic Sutton - assistant trainer at Malua Racing (Leon and Troy Corstens) - was also active on day one of the sale, purchasing three-year-old colt Halla Dubai for 125,000 guineas (approx. $220,000 AUD).

Sutton partnered up with Johnny McKeever and Hurworth Bloodstock to buy the colt by Expert Eye who is a race-winner over a mile at Windsor from five-career starts.

Sutton is acquiring himself a team of horses as he sets up his own stable in Victoria.

Central Coast Racing stable Domeland secured itself a son of Galileo in Salt Lake City for 100,000 guineas (approx. $180,000 AUD).

The three-year-old colt is a listed winner, winning the Ruby Stakes at Killarney for Aidan O'Brien from a 10-start career that has reaped two wins.

Warwick Farm-trainer Annabel Neasham teamed up with Blandford Bloodstock, purchasing two-year-old colt Akkadian Emperor for 70,000 guineas (approx. $120,000 AUD) and three-year-old colt New Business for 60,000 guineas (approx. $100,000 AUD).

Akkadian Emperor - a son of Churchill - is unplaced from three-career starts, having last ran seventh at the Curragh, while New Business is a three-year-old son of Sea The Stars, with one race win to his name from five attempts.

Darby Racing teamed up with De Burgh Equine to purchase three-year-old colt Farnborough for $75,000 guineas (approx. $130,000 AUD).

The Galileo colt is a dual race-winner, most recently winning by five-lengths at Leopardstown.

Australian Bloodstock also made a purchase on day one, combining with Ronald Dauscher to buy Chillaxing, a three-year-old colt by Galileo for 22,000 guineas (approx. $40,000 AUD).

The colt has had one career start for a third at the Curragh.

The sale commenced on October 23 and finishes on October 27.
