The heavy track will make things tricky so I will be looking for those proven in the conditions at the Sunshine Coast on Sunday.

Blinkers going back on PORT MOURANT (1) give him his chance to make up for a narrow defeat at Ipswich. The bigger track will suit and from gate one with Mark Du Plessis there should be no excuses. ROWLETT (4) finished behind PORT MOURANT (1) at Ipswich but beat him home narrowly over this trip at Sunshine Coast at his start prior. He meets him on similar terms and will be near the speed throughout. CAOIMHE (3) led them up at Ipswich but was found wanting late. Ben Thompson stays on and can dictate a tempo to suit. VANCITY (6) was distanced at Ipswich but blinkers going back on may help.

VERDICT - PORT MOURANT (1) won’t find one much weaker.

A ‘watch-the market’ race with plenty of first starters and doubts about which ones can handle the conditions. BIG SKY COUNTRY (1) has placed at both outings in good company. Gate one is no advantage on a heavy track but he has speed and Ben Thompson can control the race. SIR LEONIDAS (8) has looked handy at his trials, is well drawn and the Hulbert’s can produce one first-up. Watch for support. It pays to be wary of Start Kendrick runners on their home track and while PLUMS AKIMBO (6) hasn’t shown much at trials he is bred for speed and gets a nose roll and tongue-tie for debut. Kelly Schweida and Jim Orman are a strong combination and blinkers go on DIANA’S AFFAIR (3) which has looked handy at trials.

VERDICT
 - On revealed form BIG SKY COUNTRY (1) wins.

Surely it is time for MILLWARD (1) which resumed well when runner-up here over 1000m and will be much better suited over this longer trip. The wet track is a query but if he handles the conditions is the one to beat. VIRGO VISION (9) struggled on the poly last start but is better suited here and a wet track shouldn’t worry him. Ryan Maloney gets back on and will have him handy throughout. AHIKA (11) placed at his past two outings and this track suits. He gets some gear changes, Mark Du Plessis stays on and draws to do no work. GISELLE’S GAMBLE (10) had support but got too far back at Ipswich. She will give them a start but this bigger track suits and with Steph Thornton can hit the line. ZATTASTAR (16) is an emergency but has been knocking on the door and has the speed to overcome a wide gate.

VERDICT
- If MILLWARD (1) handles the heavy he wins.

Stuart Kendrick is hard to beat on his home track and CHOIR BOY (1) was too strong on the poly here over this trip last start. He takes on older horses here but won his only previous start on a heavy track and can make his own luck. BIRAGUE (4) was beaten by CHOIR BOY (1) at Ipswich three starts back but meets him 4.5kg better. He will find this easier than recent outings and will be running on. TOP BOY (2) has struck a purple patch of form and was too strong at the Gold Coast last start. John Smerdon has backed him up quickly and with 3kg claimer Yvette Lewis will be hard to hold out. Michael Morrison is also backing MA MA’S ROSE (6) up quickly after a good effort at her first start for the stable. When last here she ran third behind Gypsy Goddess and Du Maurier over this trip with 58kg which is a good reference for this. MASTER MARKO (3) has been struggling in higher grade after two solid efforts on the poly track. He will enjoy this easier grade, the trip suits and he draws to do no work.

VERDICT - Will trust the CHOIR BOY (1) to hit a high note again.

HONESTYANDLOYALTY (4) just missed on the poly last start and has put in solid efforts at all five starts. With Tiff Brooker he will get all the favours and is due to break through. JANE HIS WIFE (13) chased HONESTYANDLOYALTY (4) home last start and meets him on similar terms. A return to turf will help and he draws to do no work. MOONLIGHT COWBOY (6) has placed at both outings at Beaudesert and will appreciate a bigger track. He meets stronger company but drops 4kg and wet ground won’t bother him. BOLD ENFORCER (2) gets back in running but races as though this trip will suit and Larry Cassidy might just be the right rider. YANGARI (10) has had plenty of chances but is usually around the mark and suited this trip. He needs the right tempo but will be hitting the line.

VERDICT
- Open race but HONESTYANDLOYALTY (4) is due.

Mark Currie has found the key to PEACHIES DREAM (8) which had one win in 53 starts but has won twice and been runner-up three times since joining the stable. The wins have been at bush tracks but she has run well at three previous starts on this track over 1000m which augurs well for this. WINE NOT ROSES (9) was caught wide when resuming on the poly here over 11100m. She gets a tongue-tie and from the better gate with Jasmine Cornish’s 2kg claim will be prominent throughout. Stuart Kendrick has LION’S TOOTH (14) resuming without a trial but he will have been readied by jumpouts. His previous form is good enough for this and Jim Orman will give him every chance. KING RAGNAR (1) doesn’t win out of turn but three of his four wins have come on heavy ground. He gives them all weight but could hit the line.

VERDICT - PEACHIES DREAM (8) may be too sharp.

Lauren Abbott was sending NICCI TRIX (3) around in Saturday company last preparation and she won’t mind getting on to a heavy track. She hasn’t had a trial but this class suits and with Jim Orman from a good gate she may be too smart. SOUL OBSESSION (5) is now having her third outing for Lee Freedman and will enjoy getting back on turf. She gets some gear changes and a Moonee Valley win over this trip five starts back keeps her under notice. Natalie McCall’s horses go best here and LUCIFER’S LOOT (2) has won three times at this trip. He sprints well fresh and while heavy ground is a query should be prominent for a long way. BLUE KENTUCKY MOON (4) found the class too strong last outing but is better suited here and goes well for Jag Guthmann-Chester.

Verdict - NICCI TRIX (3) has the Saturday form.

Annabel Neasham has had her frustrations with GHOSTWRITER (10) but he won’t find an easier Class 1 than this. He found the Grafton Guineas too tough last start but had been runner-up at his four previous outings in better company than this. Neither the trip or heavy ground will worry him and he has the speed to overcome a wide gate. The nose-roll and winkers come off KENNY BOY (11) which wasn’t disgraced in a Saturday Class 3 last start. He just missed in a Class 2 here two starts back and gets his chance with comeback rider Paul Hammersley. NOBLE CAT (15) got the job done at Doomben last start and has trialled since. He has found a moderate Class 1, can handle heavy ground and will get every chance with Jim Orman. A BIG CHANCE (1) is far from a star but hit the line well last start and has placed at both outings on a heavy track.
Verdict - GHOSTWRITER (10) won’t get a better chance.

The heavy track will suit OURCONI (3) which won in this grade three starts back on a similar surface. Ryan Maloney has a strong record for the Edmonds stable and with a positive ride can add to it here. HOT ESCORT (4) is another that loves heavy ground and beat all but the talented Manhood last start. The gate tests but scratchings may help and Michael Cahill will give him every chance. SWEET SIXTEEN (12) has been improved by two outings since joining the Tony Gollan stable. She placed in Saturday grade last start and with Angela Jones will be handy throughout. Blinkers go on RELIABLE RUBY (7) which has been racing over shorter trips and may appreciate the 1300m. She has speed and with Larry Cassidy can set her own tempo. COLLAY’S SPIRIT (1) will enjoy getting back to provincial grade and has a good record at this track.

VERDICT - OURCONI (3) gets conditions to suit.
