Australian Cup 2013

The Australian Cup, held at Flemington on Super Saturday alongside the Newmarket Handicap, has a history of being run and won by past and future Melbourne Cup winners.

Shocking won the Australian Cup in his final career start (2011), while Makybe Diva was the last to complete the Australian Cup-Melbourne Cup double in the same year (2005).

The 2013 Australian Cup continues the tradition with last years Melbourne Cup winner Green Moon entering off a fourth in the Futurity (1400m). The stayer is favoured over the longer track and for good reason, he owns a record of 3-2-0 in seven Australian starts at a distance of 2000 metres and above.

The Adam Durrant trained Mr. Moet who took second in the Peter Young Stakes (1800m) last time out, Super Cool who enters off a victory in the Autumn Classic (1800m) and Mawingo who started the favourite but finished a half-length out in the fiercely contested Peter Young.
