Hi Rancho! Yes no Happy Valley tonight, its part of the big buildup for the final Group 1 of the season, the THE STANDARD CHARTERED CHAMPIONS & CHATER CUP.
Also factoring into this, the Government permit the HKJC to have only 83 meetings a season between September 11 and July 15, and the Jockey Club use these breaks to do maintenance on the track.
The corer and verti-drain were used on the Happy Valley turf track to alleviate surface hardness on the 3rd May on the A Course; and on the 10th May on the B Course (Worked Back Position) and the remaining area. On completion of the works, the areas are then lightly rolled as per previous practice.
In regards to Sha Tin, as there are no dirt races on Sunday, the large all weather dirt track was ripped to a depth of 5 1/2" to relieve surface hardness yesterday.
The verti-drain was used on the Sha Tin turf track to alleviate surface hardness between 30 April - 13 May on the A to C Course; and on 20 May the C plus 3 Course and the remaining area.
I know you love Happy Valley: HV have 34 night meetings in a season, and 2 day meeting on Sunday.
Sha Tin have 44 meetings of which 31 are on Sundays; plus 3 night dirt meetings.
That adds to 83 (I hope!)
PS Happy Valley race on May 30, June 6,13,20 and July 4 and 11. So you have 6 more HVs this season weather permitting.

Permission has been granted for Club Jockeys Brett Prebble and Douglas Whyte to be absent from Hong Kong in order to partner LUCKY NINE (Trainer Caspar Fownes) and GLORIOUS DAYS (Trainer John Size) respectively in the Yasuda Kinen (Group 1) scheduled to be conducted at the Tokyo Racecourse, Japan on Sunday, 3 June 2012.
Both Jockeys Prebble and Whyte have advised that they will depart Hong Kong on Thursday, 31 May 2012 and return on Monday, 4 June 2012. As such, they will not be available to accept race riding engagements at the Sha Tin racemeeting on Sunday, 3 June 2012.

And it was a BOB OF THE HEAD JOB in the last ~ unfortunately it didn't go our way and VOILE ROUGE was beaten a nostril. Results in Hong Kong are often decided by the narrowest of margins.

JAMES McDONALD ~ Awesome Jockey! Great ride in a very slowly run race to win the BMW Champions Mile on XTENSION. He has ridden 13 Group 1 winners and he is only 20 ! God, I hope he comes to ride in Honkers permanently!
Dominant with the Whyte Man in the saddle (Douglas Whyte) was just that in the HKG3 Queen Mother Memorial Cup at Sha Tin today as he overcame a troubled passage to secure his first Hong Kong success by a length and a half.
