MELBOURNE, Oct 25 AAP - Leviathan owner Lloyd Williams rates Green Moon the best chance of the six horses he still has in the $6 million Melbourne Cup.

The imported Montjeu five-year-old is 34th in the order of entry for the Melbourne Cup which has a field limit of 24.

At his fourth start for Williams, the entire won the Newcastle Cup (2300m) last month before finishing runner-up to Southern Speed in the Caulfield Cup (2400m).

"The horse with the best chance that actually has to win the Lexus (at Flemington on Saturday) to get into the race is Green Moon," he told Radio Sport National.

"Green Moon has got in with 50.5 kilos ... and he has an enormous chance but he has to win the Lexus to get in.

"He's a tough stayer, he's got no weight, he's beaten the handicapper but it's 50-50.

"He's going to be a four or five to one chance in the Lexus but he's got to win to get in the race."

Green Moon was one of five Cup horses the Mt Macedon-based Williams' took to Flemington for a look at the track on Tuesday morning.

At First Sight, who runs in Wednesday's Bendigo Cup, Linton, Midas Touch and Mourayan were also there.

"We just let them canter around the course proper just to familiarise themselves with where they have to go next Tuesday," Williams said.

"We didn't work them at all, they merely cantered two laps. It was good exercise for them.

"We took them down there purely to let them know where Flemington was."

Williams said Linton had recovered from an injury to his off-fore hoof suffered when he pulled a shoe and stood on it while walking into the swimming pool at Macedon Lodge last Friday.

That forced the grey's withdrawal from last Saturday's Moonee Valley Cup (2500m).

Green Moon, at $19 with TAB Sportsbet, is the best fancied of the Williams horses in the Cup ahead of Midas Touch at $21.
