WA trainers Sean and Jake Casey have completed the first objective of their Melbourne assault with stable star Dom To Shoot.

They have secured a start in next month's All Star Mile at Caulfield.

Racing Victoria offered the six-year-old's connections a start in the $3.6m All-Star Mile after Dom To Shoot's solid fourth to Mr Brightside in last Saturday's Group 1 Futurity Stakes at Caulfield.

"That was a big win," Sean Casey said.

"It was good to get the call and lucky his run satisfied the board. It was great."

Mr Brightside bid for Doncaster Mile history 'very unlikely'

Dom To Shoot finished three lengths from Mr Brightside but Casey said the effort, which was the gelding's first run since last December, had plenty of merit.

A quicker than usual beginning left Dom To Shoot racing closer to the speed before circumstances left the son of Shooting To Win with the task of carting the field up to the leader Buffalo River.

"It was massive really," Casey said.

"It was when I saw that helmet-cam footage off Mr Brightside, that we got a good gauge of the run.

"He had to take off to chase the leader Buffalo River, which is not the way he usually races, and Mr Brightside started hunting him.

"It just gave Mr Brightside a beautiful run into the race."

Casey said the fitness gained in the Futurity Stakes would serve Dom To Shoot well in the All-Star Mile on March 16.

Jumping to 1600m will also suit Dom To Shoot, who narrowly defeated multiple Group 1 winner Zaaki over 1800m in the Group 1 Northerly Stakes at Ascot three runs back.

Amelia's Jewel has 'developed into a weapon'

"Damian said he plateaued about the 200m but he still fought on well," Casey said.

"We're going to have a lot stronger horse going forward.

"With Buffalo River and Pride Of Jenni in the race, they're going to go hammer and tongs so it's going to be a lot faster in the All-Star Mile."

Dom To Shoot is the seventh runner to secure a start in the All-Star Mile alongside Mr Brightside, Pride Of Jenni, Jimmysstar, Buffalo River, Pericles and Kiwi galloper Desert Lightning.

Casey said there was not enough time to give Dom To Shoot another start before the All-Star Mile but the eight-time winner would be in perfect condition for the richest race of his career.

"He'll probably have one or two jumpouts and should be cherry ripe for three weeks' time," Casey said.

Dom To Shoot is a $26 chance in the latest All-Star Mile betting.
