Star Witness backed to win half a million

Sportingbet Australia CEO Michael Sullivan said the bet suggested Star Witness had come back in great order.

"One punter came in with $50,000 at $11 for Star Witness and you'd have to suggest it's a confident bet," said Sullivan.

"The horse has shown plenty of promise as a 2yo and again during the Spring and has shown a liking for the spacious Flemington track."

Sullivan said he would be an interested observer when the Starcraft colt resumes.

"As he has only won up to 1200 metres you'd think he would need a slightly different preparation," Sullivan said.

"While the breeding on the sire side suggests he'll get the mile, his dam was a short course flyer so the end of 1600 metres could cause some problems."
