Snowden to have strong hand in Furious

SYDNEY, Sept 1 AAP - Peter Snowden rates Anise as his stable's leading hope in Saturday's Group Two Furious Stakes as the stakeswinning filly attempts to emulate her grand-dam Twiglet.

Twiglet, who was trained by Grahame Begg, took out the Furious Stakes (1400m) in 1990 and Anise is the $3.20 favourite with TAB Sportsbet to add her name to the honour roll following an eye-catching return in the San Domenico Stakes.

Anise, a daughter of General Nediym out of Pimpinella, spearheads a strong Darley representation in the Furious with Aerobatics and Detours also engaged.

"Anise has got the runs on the board, her run was outstanding first-up and if she can reproduce that she's probably got the measure of the other two," Snowden said.

"But it won't surprise if either of those run well also."

Anise, winner of the Group Three Kindergarten Stakes last season, struggled to keep up with the fast pace in the San Domenico (1100m) before producing a late charge over the final 200 metres to finish second to Foxwedge.

Snowden said Anise's first-up performance and trackwork indicated the extra distance would suit her.

"She is going to foreign territory in 1400 metres but you would have to say on the way she raced that day (in the San Domenico) and what she has shown me since, it's probably the right race for her," Snowden said.

"She has gone super-relaxed in her work, all she wants to do is settle and finish her work off, which is what she needs to be doing if we want to go to this race and further.

"We will know more after Saturday."

Lightly-raced Detours ($8) won her first two starts before coming in over four lengths behind the impressive Manawanui when third on a heavy track in the Group Three Up And Coming Stakes (1300m) at Warwick Farm on August 20.

"She really did struggle in the wet last start against Manawanui but she's a good filly who has already shown she has got nice ability," Snowden said.

"Off a good draw (barrier two) she'll race up on the speed and give herself every chance."

Aerobatics, who overraced when eighth in the Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m) first-up, is the least favoured of the Darley trio in betting at $21 but Snowden says if she puts it all together she is more than capable of giving the race a huge shake.

"She has got as much talent as Anise but she's just got to learn how to settle," Snowden said.

"If she does she's as good as any I've got."
