MELBOURNE, Sept 12 AAP - The hearing of charges against Melbourne jockey Danny Nikolic has been postponed due to a legal issue.

Nikolic had been scheduled to answer charges involving incidents at last week's Seymour race meeting involving alleged threats made against Racing Victoria chief steward Terry Bailey.

But the hearing before the Racing Appeals and Disciplinary (RAD) Board had to be abandoned before it began.

RAD Board chairman Russell Lewis said only that a legal issue had emerged and the inquiry would be rescheduled to be heard by a newly-constituted panel next Monday.

Evidence at an earlier hearing revealed Nikolic had allegedly threatened Bailey's life during a series of incidents at Seymour.

Bailey stood Nikolic down indefinitely and his subsequent investigations led to charges being laid against the jockey on Monday.

Nikolic had also been scheduled to appeal to the RAD Board on Wednesday against his standing down.

That appeal has also been postponed.
