Massive plunge lands at Wagga with former Snowden-trained horse
Astute punters landed a huge plunge early in the card on day one of Wagga's carnival.
As much as $26 was posted for the Ross Purcell-trained Hulm on Tuesday for the second race of the day at Wagga's Thursday meeting, but that didn't last long.
The son of Zoustar was quickly tightened into $21, then $14, $13 and by the time you could blink, he was a $5 chance in the Super Maiden Handicap (1000m), with the early shoppers left praying to the overs gods.
$26 into $11 before anyone could blink.
Good luck to anyone who got the

First-up after a long spell and jumping sweetly out of the barriers, the gelding found his way to the front under the urgings of jockey Jason Lyon and from there, made every post a winner when holding off One Smart Cookie ($4.50) and the short-priced favourite Bambi Belle ($1.70).
Hulm had not raced since a meeting at Kembla in December 2022 when there was plenty of hype around the horse, who at the time, was trained by Peter and Paul Snowden.
Markets assessed him as the $1.90 favourite that day for his debut run, but he finished unplaced in what would be his first and only start for the stable.
