'I think it's a joke': Boss speaks out on Cox Plate fine
Three-time Melbourne Cup-winning jockey Glen Boss has defended his celebration in last Saturday's Cox Plate aboard Sir Dragonet, labelling the fine handed down to him as a "joke".
Speaking on Racing.com's After The Last program on Monday night, the outspoken hoop was typically honest in his assessment of the $1000 fine he received for his "celebratory gesture" upon crossing the line.
"I think it's a joke to put it bluntly," Boss said.
Boss went on to explain why he thought personality was so important in attracting new fans to the sport..@boss_glen and Sir Dragonet 🐉 #CoxPlate100

"We have this situation right now where we are going to a completely different audience."
"Through this whole COVID thing we are going to people who have no idea of racing, and all of a sudden there are a lot of people who have got an interest in racing because they've got nothing else to watch.
"We've got to somehow make this game a little bit more humanised and I'm aware of this - you've got to give these people something to cheer at.
"I don't care if they call me an idiot or a fool ... at least they're talking about it!
"I feel a little bit obligated if I win these events to show the people how much it means to me.
"These are massive events for me - and they are for every jockey and every owner and every trainer who has a Cox Plate winner.
"These are moments that, if you don't capture it and grasp it for what it is, it's a moment missed.
"And I refuse to miss those moments because they are huge.
'It's a feeling I have in my body and I refuse to push those feelings down because someone doesn't like it."
