Godolphin sprinter Spacewalk is giving punters huge trust issues, fading late to finish second after trading at a staggering $1.02 in-play with Betfair.

The heavily-fancied favourite looked like he was going to cruise to a strong win in the G.H. Mumm Century Stakes (1000m) under star jockey James McDonald, bursting through the middle of the field to take the lead with less than 200m to go.

Just when punters began to exhale however, Spacewalk once again snatched defeat from the jaws of victory, with Najem Suhail - trained by Robbie Griffiths & Matthew de Kock - storming down the outside to steal the win in the 1000m dash as Spacewalk paddled.

It was a harrowing watch for punters, with $210 matched on Spacewalk at $1.02 in-play. Some $3.1k was matched on the favourite at $1.10 or under in the run.

Najem Suhail - ridden by Damian Lane - hit a max in-play price of a staggering $120, with $240 placed on the gelding at $20 or more.

It is the second time in three starts that Spacewalk has given favourite backers reason to bury their face in their hands.

Prior to his last-start victory on Derby Day, he loomed up as the winner in the Group 2 Caulfield Sprint (1000m) before Doull kicked back to pinch a win that looked all but certain.

He traded at an even lower $1.01 in-play on that occasion.
