SYDNEY, March 15 AAP - Champion jockey Jim Cassidy has lifted Dissident from the brink of defeat to a thrilling Group One Randwick Guineas victory.

Looking certain he would have to settle for second place when challenged by El Roca, Dissident fought back from the 200m to beat the New Zealand colt at Randwick on Saturday.

"You don't win these Group Ones at the hundred (metres) you win them on the line," Cassidy said.

The victory gave Cassidy his 101st Group One triumph.

Trainer Peter Moody said Dissident was entitled to be rated among the top three-year-olds in Australia.

"He's pretty hard to get past ... they were like a couple of warriors together - a young one and an old one," Moody said.

Cassidy rode Dissident the same way as he did in winning the Hobartville Stakes by taking the colt to the lead as the field settled.

El Roca was also sent forward and he stalked the leaders into the straight before matching strides with the winner.

Eurozone loomed strongly before finishing in the minor placing.

Dissident started at $11 with El Roca favourite at $3.20 and Eurozone an $8 chance.
