BRISBANE, Jan 28 AAP - Lynn Tipper landed her biggest win of her seven-year training career when outsider Vipera Gold won the Listed Nudgee Handicap at Doomben on Saturday.
Vipera Gold ($15) gave bookmakers a dream result with her upset win in the 1200m feature.
The five-year-old daughter of Golden Snake powered through the heavy going and rain to down Whateverwhenever ($7.50) by a short head with Just Destiny a further three-quarters of a length away third.
Ridden by Chris Munce, Vipera Gold looked to be struggling in the second half of the field before angling out to swoop on the leaders in the straight.
"She did a good job but the race panned out well for her," Munce said.
"We were a fair way back in the second half of the field early on but we managed to get out around the 600 metres and worked our way through the field."
Tipper has a team of six horses in work at Bridgeman Downs, on Brisbane's north side.
The black-type victory will prove a major boost to Vipera Gold's stud value when Tipper eventually retires her.
"I thought she would have been outclassed in this race," Tipper said.
"She's only a class four horse but she excels in the wet.
"It's great to win as we bred her. It's a Listed race so it's the biggest win of my career."
Tipper is now faced with the task of trying to place Vipera Gold for the rest of her career.
"I'm not sure what I'll do with her now. We'll probably just look for wet tracks," she said.
Racing went ahead at Doomben after much uncertainty during the week in which there was 300 millimetres of rain.
The meeting was moved from Eagle Farm but was in danger up until an inspection on Saturday morning.
Several meetings, including Saturday's Gold Coast program, have been abandoned over the past few days and rain is forecast well into next week.
