SYDNEY, Aug 29 AAP - Pre-post bookmakers have reacted with obvious enthusiasm for So You Think to repeat his 2009 Cox Plate heroics in the wake of a stunning comeback win.
So You Think had his quote almost halved to clear-cut favouritism for this year's edition of the weight-for-age championship after he looked as sharp as ever in his Memsie Stakes triumph at Caulfield.
Resuming after 10 months off and having his first start since a recently-revealed throat operation, So You Think was too brilliant for a crack weight-for-age field, prompting Bart Cummings to rate the entire among his all-time greats.
"You can't keep a good horse down," he told AAP after watching the Memsie action unfold at Rosehill.
"I've had a few good horses and he's up there with the best of them."
TAB Sportsbet offered $8 about So You Think's Cox Plate chances before the Memsie but that quote was cut to $4.40 in the wash-up to the Group Two race.
The four-year-old displaced Memsie third placegetter Shoot Out as Cox Plate favourite.
Shoot Out drifted from $5.50 to $7.50 while Memsie runner-up Whobegotyou was a $23 to $11 firmer.
So You Think shares the second line of Melbourne Cup betting at $14 with stablemate Dariana in a market top-heavy with Cummings stars.
The 12-time Cup-winning trainer is also represented by Faint Perfume ($16).
Precedence ($21) and Brightnight ($26) were other Cummings runners to firm for the Melbourne Cup on the strength of eye-catching Caulfield runs on Saturday.
Whether So You Think lines up in the Melbourne Cup remains to be seen with Cummings only focussed on a smooth run-in to the Cox Plate.
Discussing the remainder of So You Think's spring schedule, Cummings said: "Probably go to the Dato Tan Chin Nam (Stakes) at Moonee Valley and the Yalumba (Stakes at Caulfield) then the Cox Plate."
In Caulfield Cup betting, So You Think is also on the second line behind equal favourites Moudre and Shoot Out.
Moudre firmed from $16 to $10 after a soft win in the Listed Hocking Stuart Quality Stakes.
Shocking is the $12 favourite to win back-to-back Melbourne Cups.
Caulfield and Melbourne Cup weights are released on Wednesday.
