Snow Fairy to miss Hong Kong Vase

HONG KONG, Nov 29 PA - Snow Fairy has been withdrawn from the Hong Kong Vase on December 11 after being injured in trackwork leaving trainer Ed Dunlop with Melbourne Cup runner-up Red Cadeaux as his representative.

The winner of last year's Hong Kong Cup, Snow Fairy had been on a mission to become the first horse to win the Cup (2000m) and the Vase (2400m).

She bounced back to winning form at her most recent start when she took out the Queen Elizabeth II Cup in Japan for the second time.

Dunlop announced her withdrawal on his website.

"It is with great disappointment that we report Snow Fairy suffered an injury this morning at Sha Tin racecourse whilst doing a routine canter," Dunlop said.

"We have therefore withdrawn her from the Hong Kong Vase and she will return to England when she is fit to travel.

"We'll get her home and assess what the situation is and take it from there.

"As I'm in Newmarket and she's over there, I don't really know the extent of the injury yet.

"All I know is it's bad enough to say that she won`t be able to run and we`ll make any further decisions when she's home."
