SYDNEY, March 14 AAP - Multiple Group One winner Sniper's Bullet will continue his autumn preparation in Sydney after a lucky escape from injury in a collision with a car.

Trainer Tracey Bartley said the six-year-old was being kept in work at his Mudgee base and would race next in the Group One George Ryder Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill on April 3.

His main aim is the Group One Doncaster Mile (1600m) at Randwick a fortnight later.

The drama with Sniper's Bullet happened when he broke free at Warwick Farm last Friday week.

The gelding was being loaded on to a horse float to return to Mudgee when he took fright and got away.

He then galloped up the road narrowly missing two trucks before colliding with a car.

Sniper's Bullet took a bit of skin off his hip in the accident and was a bit tender for a couple of days afterwards.

"He has stayed in work," Bartley said.

"I left it up to his owners and he'll be pressing on towards the Doncaster.

"His next run will be in the George Ryder. The horse is racing well, his runs in Melbourne were good and I thought he should have run second last start (in the Futurity Stakes).

"I might have just done too much with him leading up to that race because I wanted him really tough stepping up from 1200 metres to the mile."

The trainer gave the gelding plenty of time in his day yard at Mudgee and he has progressed well since.

He is likely to have his first serious piece of work since the incident on Tuesday.

Sniper's Bullet has won three Group Ones including back-to-back majors in Perth at the end of last year in the Railway Stakes and Kingston Town Classic.

He was set to run first-up in the C.F Orr Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield but an elevated blood count forced Bartley to scratch him from the race.

The six-year-old then finished third in the Group One William Reid Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley before jumping to the 1600m where he finished third in the Futurity Stakes behind Typhoon Tracy and Dao Dao.

His Railway Stakes win was his first since he claimed the 2007 Stradbroke Handicap as a three-year-old.
