MELBOURNE, March 11 AAP - Imported stayer Our Aqaleem has been humanely put down after fracturing his shoulder at trackwork on Thursday.

It is the second devastating blow for trainer David Hayes in the space of 24 hours after Changingoftheguard died during a routine gelding operation on Wednesday.

Our Aqaleem was to have contested the Group One Australian Cup at Flemington on Saturday.

His loss leaves Hayes with three runners - three-year-old Extra Zero, Hobart Cup winner Growl and Zagreb who will be aiming to go two better than his third to Niconero last year.
