SYDNEY, Sept 2 AAP - Spring Champion Stakes betting could have its first overhaul since the release of markets after the Ming Dynasty Quality at Randwick on Saturday.

Stablemates Sea Lord and Praecido can press for favouritism for the Group One feature should they run up to expectations in the Listed 1400-metre race.

In the opening market they occupy the second and third line of betting at $11 and $13 respectively behind the $9 equal favourites Ilovethiscity and Golden Rose winner Toorak Toff.

New Zealander Lion Tamer can likewise enhance his Spring Champion credentials when he makes his Australian debut.

Lion Tamer, prepared by the father and son partnership of Murray and Bjorn Baker, is a stakes-credentialled three-year-old expected to come into his own as his races get longer.

"When he steps out over more ground we'll see the best of him," Bjorn Baker said.

"He's a very relaxed customer with a good deal of ability."

Lion Tamer arrived in Sydney earlier this week with Harris Tweed and Mackadoo.

His stablemates have since been sent to Melbourne and will run at Flemington on Saturday.

Lion Tamer finished down the course on a heavy track when resuming at Te Rapa on August 14 but underlined his staying potential with a Listed win over 1600 metres at Ellerslie in April.

The colt is rated a $17 chance in early Spring Champion Stakes betting.

Rosehill trainer David Payne will be looking to prepare back-to-back Ming Dynasty winners with either Sea Lord or Praecido.

He won the race last year when More Than Great beat So You Think in a spine-tingling finish.

Sea Lord, bred to stay as a son of Street Cry, was having only his second career start when placed in the Up And Coming Stakes at Warwick Farm on August 21.

Praecido will be backing up after finishing down the track in the Golden Rose at Rosehill last week when he blew the start.

Jockey Peter Robl, meanwhile, has been double booked for the Ming Dynasty.

Stewards have allowed Robl to be declared for From London and the second emergency Cosmonaut.

If Cosmonaut gains a start, Robl will ride the Bart Cummings-trained colt.
