SYDNEY, July 1 AAP - Australian jockey Danny Nikolic's contract in Mauritius has been terminated after "an incident" with stewards.

Nikolic's retaining trainer Budheswar Gujadhur issued a statement via the Mauritius Turf Club (MTC) website after the jockey fronted stewards on Tuesday following a complaint by French rider Gaeton Faucon following a race on the weekend.

"We have been called by the racing stewards after an incident in the stewards' room during which Danny Nikolic showed disrespect towards the racing stewards," Gujadhur said.

"Following this meeting, we have decided to terminate Danny Nikolic's contract.

"There are things we can't accept."

The MTC also issued a communique about the incident.

"After routine stewards' inquiries held on Tuesday 30 June 2009, the racing stewards met with jockeys G. Faucon and D. Nikolic," it said.

"During the said meeting, an incident occurred involving jockey D. Nikolic.

"A report of this incident has been considered at the administrative stewards meeting held on Tuesday 30 June 2009.

"The administrative stewards have duly noted the regret formulated by the employers of jockey D. Nikolic and their decision to consequently terminate forthwith his contract of employment.

"Furthermore, the administrative stewards have taken good note and accepted the apologies duly tendered and placed on record by the employers of jockey D. Nikolic with regard to the incident involving the latter."
