MELBOURNE, July 2 AAP - Moonee Valley is prepared to lose up to $100,000 in revenue after Racing Victoria agreed to transfer the club's July 11 meeting to Sandown.
Moonee Valley chief executive Michael Browell said that after a recent renovation of the course proper, it was decided that it would be in the best interests of industry stakeholders and the Moonee Valley course proper that the meeting be transferred.
He said it could cost the club up to $100,000 but that the Hiskens Steeplechase meeting, the last city meeting of the season, would go ahead at the Valley on July 25.
"The decision was made in the club's best long-term interest," Browell said.
"Moving the meeting on 11 July will ensure the best racing surface over the spring period leading into a hectic summer program."
The Sandown meeting features the running of the $100,000 Ian Macdonald Steeplechase.
Moonee Valley was heavily criticised by trainers and jockeys after the last two meetings were rated heavy despite a lack of rain.
