BRISBANE, July 1 AAP - Brisbane Turf Club CEO Malcolm Holmes is to become the chief executive of New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing (NZTR) at the beginning of August.

NZTR chairman Guy Sargent announced the appointment on Wednesday.

"We are delighted that Malcolm has accepted this position," he said on NZTR's website.

"His experience, together with his commercial background, makes him the ideal person to take over this vital role.

"One of Malcolm's priorities will be working with industry stakeholders on our Governance Review and implementing any changes that result from it."

Holmes, 44, was involved in the recent merger of the two Brisbane metropolitan racing clubs.

He previously held senior executive roles with ACP Media Limited, the Hurricanes Franchise and the Wellington Rugby Union, where he was chief executive for almost six years, Carter Holt Harvey Tissue and Woolyarns Limited.

"I'm excited by the opportunity to be involved in the New Zealand racing industry during this time of change," he told NZTR.

"My recent involvement in Australia provides me with relevant experience that can be utilised to the benefit of the New Zealand industry.

"I am looking forward to making a significant contribution and to working very closely with the various industry stakeholders to ensure New Zealand's long and proud history of thoroughbred racing continues."
