MELBOURNE, March 9 AAP - The start of the jumps racing season has been further delayed until April 17 at Hamilton owing to delays in designing, constructing and then trialling the new obstacles.

The season had been already been put back to start at Warrnambool on April 6 with two hurdles and a steeplechase to be held there.

However, only one jumps race will be lost from the 2010 program as two jumps races have been added to Hamilton on April 17-18, meaning the club will hold four jumps race over two days.

The new prototype obstacles, which have brown brush imported from France and are designed to collapse when a horse hits them, are to be trialled over the next week.

The three jumps races that had been scheduled for Warrnambool on April 6 have been converted to flat races.

Eight flat races have been converted to highweights this month, with Racing Victoria allocating a further 19 between April and August.
