SYDNEY, March 14 AAP - Gillian Heinrich will make a decision on Monday as to who rides Military Rose in the Reisling Stakes replacing the suspended Stathi Katsidis.
The Gold Coast trainer spent much of Sunday fielding calls from jockeys after Katsidis decided not to jeopardise his chance to ride the filly in the Golden Slipper by appealing a careless riding suspension.
Katsidis was outed at Eagle Farm on Friday and faced the dilemma of of riding Military Rose in Saturday's Reisling pending an appeal but being unable to partner her in the $3.5 million Slipper on April 3 if he lost.
"Stathi called me and we talked it over and decided it was best if he was able to ride in the Slipper," Heinrich said.
"I've had a few calls from jockeys but I want to make sure I choose the right one so I'll leave the decision until Monday."
Military Rose has not raced since she won the Magic Millions Classic at the Gold Coast in January in a dominant display over Ambers Waltz who ran second to Crystal Lily in Saturday's Sweet Embrace Stakes.
She is domiciled at Rosehill for her Sydney stay and Heinrich said she had thrived.
"She worked extremely well on Tuesday and has maintained her weight which is a big thing for two-year-olds," she said.
Military Rose, who has won all four starts, is a $10 chance with TAB Sportsbet for the Slipper with Kindergarten Stakes winner Solar Charged the $4.60 favourite.
"Solar Charged was very impressive but there is a lot of form around my filly and I'm happy with her," Heinrich said.
Heinrich will also be represented by Sweepstaking at Rosehill on Saturday and hopes the three-year-old can make amends for her last in the Surround Stakes.
"I've entered her in the Phar Lap Stakes over 1500 metres but also the 1100 metre race," she said.
"I'll look at the nominations for each race before I decide."
Before running just over six lengths behind More Joyous in the Surround Stakes (1400m) on March 6, Sweepstaking ran third to that filly in the Light Fingers Stakes.
Katsidis rode Sweepstaking in the Surround while Tim Clark was aboard in the Light Fingers with Heinrich yet to decide on a rider for Saturday.
Katsidis will return from suspension on Friday week.
