HONG KONG, Dec 11 AAP - Melbourne Cup winner Dunaden has won the Hong Kong Vase (2400m) at the International meeting at Sha Tin.
The victory was compensation for Craig Williams who missed the Cup ride on the French stayer last month due to suspension.
Williams had Dunaden travelling midfield but the horse was momentarily held up for a run when the field straightened for the run home.
He steered him through a gap and Dunaden accelerated to the line to beat local stayer Thumbs Up with Melbourne Cup second placegetter Red Cadeaux third.
Sunday's race was Dunaden's first since his Melbourne Cup triumph on November 1.
