MELBOURNE, March 11 AAP - Jockey Dwayne Dunn is optimistic about the prospects of former English galloper Doctor Fremantle who makes his Australian debut in the Group Two Blamey Stakes at Flemington.

Trained by Lee Freedman, the Sadler's Wells five-year-old is the winner of five his 13 starts and ran fourth to New Approach in the 2008 English Derby (2424m) when trained by Sir Michael Stoute.

His most notable win was the Group Two Princess Of Wales Stakes (2414m) at Newmarket last July while he is also a dual Group Three winner of the Chester Vase (2474m) and Huxley Stakes (2080m).

Doctor Fremantle was one of four imported horses bought by the Freedman stable late last year to be aimed at the 2010 Melbourne Cup and since arriving in Australia last summer he has come on better than expected.

"He has shown us a fair bit at home and I'm fairly impressed with the way he is going," Dunn said.

He said that Doctor Fremantle was ahead of schedule and plans to run him later this month had been brought forward to the Blamey.

"He has progressed that well they want to run him," Dunn said.

"He's handling himself really well here and his coat looks a million bucks.

"I expect him to run well."

Doctor Fremantle was sold soon after he finished 11th to Twice Over in the Group One Champion Stakes (2012m) at Newmarket on October 17.

At his previous start he had beaten 2008 English Oaks winner Look Here in the Arc Trial (2217m) at Newbury on September 18.

Last year Freedman produced another imported galloper and subsequent winner of the Metropolitan, Speed Gifted, to win first-up at Flemington in May.

Doctor Fremantle is one of the outsiders in the Blamey at $16 with TAB Sportsbet.

Former Hong Kong galloper Dao Dao for Team Hawkes is $2.60 favourite after chasing home Typhoon Tracy in the Group One Futurity Stakes (1600m) at Caulfield two weeks ago.

Last-start Group Three Carlyon Cup winner Rightfully Yours is at $3.80 and Group Two Makybe Diva Stakes winner Vigor, who will run without race plates on Saturday, is at $4.60.
