SYDNEY, Sept 1 AAP - Legendary trainer Bart Cummings is expected to remain in hospital until the end of the week after breaking his pelvis in a fall at his home.

His son and fellow trainer Anthony said Cummings was in good spirits and was expected to make a full recovery.

"He looked one way and stepped another and tripped over a step," Anthony Cummings told Sky Sports Radio.

"When he went down he fractured his pelvis.

"It's not a bad fracture. He might just need a frame to help him get around for a while.

"The doctors commented on how strong his bones were."

Bart Cummings has only recently recovered from a bout of pneumonia which kept him confined to his home for many weeks over the autumn and winter carnivals.

He was last season's leading Group One trainer and has a strong team this spring including Cox Plate winner So You Think who made a winning return on Saturday.
