Cheyenne Warrior starts in Gold Sovereign Stakes

Exciting Victorian youngster Cheyenne Warrior extended his unbeaten run to two with a dashing win in Wednesday night's listed Gold Sovereign Stakes (1200m) at Launceston.

A two-year-old son of Not a Single Doubt, Cheyenne Warrior was bustled out of the barriers to cross the field early and despite being used up early, still had enough in reserve to win well.

The Anthony Freedman prepared juvenile looked a top prospect for the future when he won at Sandown recently and he was duly sent out favourite for the Tasmanian feature event.

"He surprised us a bit with his first up win," winning rider Daniel Moor said. "We thought he had ability but the way he showed the attitude of an older horse for runs along the fence was impressive."

"To travel all the way over here and still fight it out as tenaciously as he did was a pretty good effort in my book."

"He's pretty similar to most of the two-year-olds that the Freedmans turn out. They are well educated and they are fit to run out and do the job."

"We weren't going to die wondering - we decided to roll the dice (and go to the front) and it paid off," Moor added.

"He's done a big effort winning a race like this at his second start. It's obviously all up to Anthony but I think he's a nice horse to go on with."

Cheyenne Warrior ($3 fav) was able to hold out a determined late charge from local galloper Kenjorwood ($9.20) by a head.

David Hayes' trained debutant Kincara Miss ($8.60) was a further length and three quarters back in third place.

Cheyenne Warrior, an $80,000 purchase from the Windemere Stud draft at last year's Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, is the eighth stakes winner for Not a Single Doubt, and is the first named foal of Miss Argyle.

Stakes placed in the Gimcrack Stakes in Sydney at two, Miss Argyle is a daughter of Iglesia and full sister to evergreen Queensland and Victorian galloper Diamondsondinside.

Miss Argyle is also a blood sister to the stakes performed Igles Star and half sister to the dam of Queensland Guineas winner Express Air.
