Black-type start put on hold

SYDNEY, Aug 30 AAP - Up and coming Zabeel mare Lost for Words will have to wait at least one more run before being asked to deliver on her potential in a stakes race.

Trainer David Atkins ruled out a start in the $120,000 Listed Wyong Cup on Friday in preference to a $70,000 restricted race over 2400 metres at Randwick the next day.

"The mile-and-a-half suits her better at this stage and she's going to be more at home at Randwick," Atkins said.

Atkins has booked Corey Brown to ride Lost for Words, a richly-bred galloper who broke through for her first metropolitan win at Warwick Farm on August 21.

Brown replaces Jim Cassidy who will be in Melbourne for important Flemington rides at the Makybe Diva Stakes meeting.

Atkins said he hoped a forward showing on Saturday would put Lost for Words into Group Three Newcastle Cup reckoning.

"If she runs well at Randwick she will definitely go to Newcastle and then that will be her last run before she goes to the paddock," he said.

The Wyong Cup attracted 16 nominations including Saturday's Premier's Cup winner Snow Alert, one of two runnners for Chris Waller.

Hugh Bowman has been booked to ride Snow Alert, the 58kg topweight, while Glyn Schofield will continue his association with Hawk Island (57.5kg).

Waller will also use both jockeys for his Mona Lisa Stakes runners with Schofield staying on last-start Rosehill winner Little Surfer Girl and Bowman taking the mount on Vintedge.

Other Wyong Cup entries include the Grafton Cup winner Twin Wing (55.5kg) and the Gai Waterhouse-trained Kontiki Park (53kg), a Corey Brown ride.

Waterhouse's AJC Australian Oaks winner Once Were Wild will be the highest-rated runner at Friday's meeting.

The Cups contender will carry a 108 rating into the Mona Lisa Stakes when she resumes against her own gender with 58kg - three kilograms more than her closest rival in the weights - the Peter Snowden-trained Brasileira.
