Belong To Many gives new owners early dividend

By Glenn Davis

GOLD COAST, Qld, May 2 AAP - Consistent mare Belong To Many gave her new owners an early dividend with a commanding victory in the Listed Silk Stocking at the Gold Coast on Saturday.

Belong To Many went through the Inglis Easter broodmare sale in Sydney and was sold to Sean Clancy for $525,000.

The five-year-old mare was previously trained by Barbara Joseph and won seven times in 27 starts but Clancy gave her to Gai Waterhouse to prepare.

With Blake Shinn aboard, Belong To Many overcame a wide barrier in her first start for Waterhouse to record a 2-1/4 length victory over Court.

The time for the 1200-metre feature was 1:08.62, just 0.01 seconds outside Jazzella's race record.

Waterhouse's stable foreman Mel Norton said Belong To Many would now head to the Listed Glenlogan Park Stakes (1350m) at Doomben in a fortnight when she'll most likely clash with boom filly Chakvetadze.

"She'll run in the Glenlogan next and then the Dane Ripper and Winter Stakes," Norton said.

"The Winter Stakes will probably be her last run before she goes to stud."

The Group Three Dane Ripper (1400m) will be run at Eagle Farm on May 30, three weeks before the Group One Winter Stakes (1400m) on the same track.

Runner-up Court pleased trainer Clarry Conners who will give the three-year-old her next start in a fortnight.

"It was a good run considering the alley she had and the run the leader got," Conners said.

"I'm not sure what we're doing with her but she'll run next in two weeks."
