DAMIAN OLIVER

Winner of the Melbourne Cup in 1995 and famously in 2002, the Damian Oliver story has become a legend of Flemington after he won the 2002 Cup aboard Media Puzzle just days after his brother Jason was tragically killed in a riding fall. The story has recently been released in cinemas as a feature length film called ‘The Cup

Damien Oliver's list of key achievements include:

- Member of the Australia Racing Hall of Fame.
- Four time winner of the RVL Scobie Breasley Medal.
- Two time winner of Melbourne Cup: 1995 and 2002.
- Two time winner of the Cox Plate: In 1997 and 2001.
- Four time winner of the Caulfield Cup: 1992, 94, 95, and 1999.
- Won the Golden Slipper in 2007 to complete the Grand Slam of Australian racing.


DARREN BEADMAN

Darren Beadman is one of Australia’s elite jockeys and whilst he still competes in Australia around the Spring and Autumn carnivals, Beadman mostly makes a living riding in Hong Kong. He was always destined to be a special rider and confirmed it by winning the Melbourne Cup on just his third attempt in 1990 aboard Kingston Rule. Many consider Darren Beadman the best jockey riding today.

Darren Beadman’s list of key achievements include:

- Over 1400 career victories, 79 of them Group 1 wins.
- Once won 6 races at the one meeting.
- Has won the Melbourne Cup twice; in 1990 (Kingston Rule) and 1996 (Saintly). Both were trained by Bart Cummings.
- In 2007 Beadman was entered into the Australia Racing Hall of Fame at the age of 45, the youngest ever inductee and only one to be inducted whilst still racing.
- Beadman’s 1990 Melbourne Cup win on Kingston Rule still stands as the fastest ever run Melbourne Cup in a time of 3 minutes and 16.3 seconds.


COREY BROWN

Since riding his first Group 1 winner in 1998, Corey Brown hasn’t taken a backward step in becoming one of Australia’s most outstanding jockeys. His talent was obvious to many and it was widely said that it would only be a matter of time before Brown would start to acquire Group 1 wins. The ultimate win came for Brown in 2009 when he patiently and deftly rode Shocking to a memorable Melbourne Cup victory after it appeared all hope was lost when his mount was stuck wide out on the track for most of the 3200m trip.

Corey Brown’s list of key achievements include:

- 33 Group 1 wins.
- Winner of the 2009 Melbourne Cup aboard Shocking
- Two time Metropolitan winner (2004 & 2009)
- Winner of the 2001 Sydney Cup

 

MICHAEL RODD

Michael Rodd’s rise to Group 1 success began with 3 consecutive Queensland Apprentices premierships early on and continues today with a Melbourne Cup under his belt. Rodd has become synoynous with trainer Mark Kavanagh as the two have formed a highly successful pairing over the past few years. Together they won the 2008 Caulfield Cup with Maldivian.

A list of key achievements by Michael Rodd include:

- Winner of the 2007 Melbourne Cup and the 2006 Victoria Derby aboard Efficient
- Winner of the 2008 Cox Plate.
- Winner of 19 Group 1 races.
- Two time winner of the Ron Hutchison Award for being the most successful jockey during the Melbourne Spring Carnival in 2007 and 2008.

 
GLEN BOSS

Glen Boss will always be remembered for winning 3 consecutive Melbourne Cups aboard the legendary Makybe Diva but few will remember that his winning run began less than 2 years after suffering a horrific fall which left him with a broken neck. His comeback to racing and ultimately his acquisition of 3 Melbourne Cups is a testament to the strong will of this determined competitor.

A list of key achievements by Glen Boss include:

- The only Jockey in the Melbourne Cup’s 151 year history to win 3 years in a row. (2003, 2004 & 2005 on Makybe Diva)
- Winner of the Scobie Breasley Medal in 2010
- Winner of the 2010, $1.35 million Singapore Gold Cup
- Career prize money of over $100 million
- Over 900 career wins

 
JIM CASSIDY

Affectionately known in racing circles as ‘The Pumper’, The New Zealand born Jim Cassidy was just 20 years of age when he won the 1983 Melbourne Cup and his career in Australia took off from there. Cassidy had to wait 14 years until he took out the Melbourne Cup again, but it was one surely worth waiting for. Cassidy has proved to be more than durable during a career full of ups and downs, and he still races today at the age of 48.

A list of Jim Cassidy’s key achievements include:

- Winner of 2 Melbourne Cups; in 1983 aboard Kiwi and 1997 aboard Might and Power.
- A 3 time winner of the Australian Derby in 1990, 1993 and 2009.
- Has won over 600 races which have contributed to over $45 million in prize money.
- Has won the Caulfield Cup, Cox Plate, Golden Slipper Stakes, and Melbourne Cup to complete the Australian grand slam of racing.
 

KERRIN MCEVOY

Ever since his victory on Brew in the 2000 Melbourne Cup, Kerrin McEvoy has gone on to make a name for himself as one of Victoria’s leading jockeys.

In 2008 McEvoy became the number one jockey at Australia’s Darley stable and has since proven himself to be a rider of world class quality.

Kerrin McEvoy’s list of key achievements include:

- Over 280 career victories
- Winner of the 2000 Melbourne Cup aboard the Mike Moroney trained Brew
- McEvoy became a favoured jockey of the world famous Godolphin stables and went on to win 7 Group 1’s on their thoroughbreds
