The run of the race was Mount Athos whingepomme..... he appeared to be the only one who made any real headway from the back ..... He was a little tardy at the start , was not stirred up to improve his position , but the jockey decided to sit quietly on him , however he nearly got bowled over twice by D.Oliver on Americain , once rounding the home turn and another time at the top of the straight . He was very unlucky not to be in the placings . I hope Cumani brings him back over for another crack at the cup next year as well .

... a different top 3 since I believe many of the jockeys will be kicking themselves for running too slow a tempo early on and second by not pushing for home sooner , taking nothing away from the winner by the way .... as per before congrats to anyone who picked up nicely on the winner

welcome to horse racing , did anyone see the Arc De Triomphe .... I disagree 3 unremarkable horses , Green Moon progressive , but have to say unexpected moreover the distance between him and many of the other horses , Fiorente , check out the UK form (franked Red Cadeuax before) , and Jakkalberry , check finishiing speed in Caulfield Cup .... I'm sure if this race was run in a weeks time we would see a completely different top 3 .....

Hey Muzzair. Melbourne Cup is a great race to bet on. Just like Derby Day is usually a great day to back favourites. But it's not ging to go to script every year.
There is obviously no conspiracy going on between bookmakers and jockeys. You made some bad bets, deal with it. The winner was favourite until two weeks ago. Just like Jeune in '94. Shows how fickle the betting public is. Another example is Peterlink comments about Damien Oliver. Ollie is a champion jockey who made a big mistake. 'turncoats' popping up like mushrooms.

Damien Oliver lost the race for Mount Athos by bumping him “twice”. This rat Oliver should never have been allowed to ride in the race.

what a mugs game, the aussie public fleeced once again, 3 unremarkable horses, not one of the favorites, bookies race, you can imagine lots of large black bags going out over the next weeks, to owners, trainers and jockeys. that would have to be a sure bet, not the melbourne cup, never again.

The top-weights fail again, and concerns about Red Cadeaux starting first-up two years running were confirmed. Dunaden's connections are surely okay, with a Caulfield Cup tucked away..
whingepomme
anyone crying after that race ...... Jakkallberry place the bet saver ..... I am still in shock over Dunaden, Red C, Americain
Scott
Great run by Green Moon! Amazing.. Jackelberry, Fiorente and amazing performance by Kelinni on short rest!

Only problem is the "sting" is not out of the track by any means. A little bit of train does not make for a slow-heavy track.

NIWOT was 5th up and won the Sydney Cup & is now 5th up again going into MC no worries on distance and loves the sting out at $81,$21 a place i think it's the best valueand my E/W SPECIAL now for me

Starts pouring, might want to take an E/W flyer on Galileo's Choice. Known wet-track specialist over long distances...

DUNADEN is the race favorite on course and a storm is not far off either..Cup maybe run in pouring rain on a track rated GOOD 3??????

You are doing a lot better than i am then whingepomme Lol ..... and many thanks to you for your input here , it has certainly been interesting and informative ...... Maybe when the time comes you can give us your thoughts on the Aintree Grand National , i have already had a number of anti-post bets on Killyglen at juicy odds ...... hope things go well with him :) .

For those shopping at the last minute- Vintage Crop (1993) was the only horse to win the Melbourne Cup in its first Australian start. This year's list of horses making their first starts in Australia are Cavalryman, Mount Athos and Fiorente.
All the best to everyone!

many thanks Formulator , you never know I might back another Ozzie race or two some time , had a first and second in each of the last two races respectively , lets hope it continues for the cup

Well I’ve been looking for another horse to stand out along side Dunaden and settled on Green Moon.
After much deliberation, the deciding factor for me in the end came down to Green Moons’ direct female line.
The old adage “ The family is great than the individual”.
Green Moon traces to the great taproot mare Our Lassie.
Some other horses who trace to Our Lassie in direct female line are; -Gold River - Mill Reef – Wollow - Blushing Groom – Imprudence - Ladys Secret – Kotashaan – Khaled - Simply Majestic etc.
What ever happens in the cup, enjoy the day and good luck ;-)

Flemington reieved a nice drop of rain a little while ago , interestingly i live quite near and there has been absolutely nothing here . But anyway , i doubt it would really of affected the track though and the last i heard it still has a good 3 rating . When it comes to Americain he won in 2012 on a rain affected track and although he appears to handle any going , my feeling is that he needs give in the going to do his best , and unless the track gets more rain , he may run similarly to how he raced last year .
Good luck to all who have backed him though ....
