DIVINE RENA was unable to secure clear running until passing the 250 metres at which point the mare was shifted out across the back of HOSKING. When questioned regarding the tactics adopted on DIVINE RENA over the final 600 metres driver D Hancock explained that he was unable to shift HOSKING wider leaving the 500 metres and as a result he had to steady his runner and wait for that runner to improve around him which occurred leaving the 400 metres. However he was of the opinion that that runner was not travelling well and as a result he shifted in in an attempt to obtain clear running. However when this was not available he steadied and shifted out to the back of HOSKING which had then commenced to make up ground. He said that he elected to remain racing on the back of HOSKING between the 250 metres and the 150 metres as that runner was affording him a nice trail into the race and initially his mare was not travelling as well as he expected. He added that when he did make his run inside the final 200 metres the mare worked home well particularly given that she had not raced or trialled since her last on 3 May 2011. D Hancock was advised that whilst his tactics between the 250 and 150 metres were of concern his explanation would be noted and he was reminded of his obligations to ensure that he drives DIVINE RENA in a consistent manner so as not to leave himself open to question.

Approaching the 800 metre mark THE MAGIC OF LIFE raced roughly and galloped and through this incident DANAMITE LASS was severely checked, suffered an offside flat tyre and was retired from the event. In view of the performance THE MAGIC OF LIFE was stood down until it can requalify on one occasion.

stewards AP 31/12/11

LOMBO LUMBER JACK (D Belford) raced three wide in the early stages before crossing to race outside the leader entering the back straight shortly after the 1800m. this gelding then challenged COUGARS BLUE JEAN (NZ) (B Cockburn) for the lead for approximately 400m however, was unsuccessful and raced outside the leader throughout.

LOMBO LUMBER JACK was under pressure from the 400m point and gave ground over the concluding stages. When questioned D Belford stated that his instructions tonight were to go forward and obtain a forward position however, was surprised that COUGARS BLUE JEAN (NZ) had obtained the lead and thought he would attempt to try and take the lead from the gelding who was up in class tonight and his horse is best suited when racing along at an even tempo however, was unsuccessful, Mr. Belford was satisfied with the overall performance of the gelding. Stewards noted his explanation.

LASSY WESTERN (10) was all around the action without winning in some pretty strong races as a juvenile and resumed with an incredible performance at Melton six days ago. Breaking up at the start, he lost at least 20 metres but still rattled home to run 3rd Just prior to the start, Viva Courage raced fiercely as it approached the mobile barrier. Classy Western shifted in slightly making contact with the sulky wheel of Viva Courage. As the start was affected Viva Courage broke, Classy Western then broke and shifted in severely making contact with Viva Courage while in a gallop shortly after the start. Robert Moreau was severely checked and broke behind the galloping runners and trailed the field for the remainder of the race. Blissful Spanker was checked and forced to race wider momentarily. Both Viva Courage and Classy Western were placed out of the draw for future mobile races.
