Gai loves the doncaster so would love to win the race with MR, does that add value to him as a stallion prospect? Maybe, Maybe not. Typhoon Tracy is the horse to beat if set for race she is the best 1400-1600 horse in australia by panels ATM. If Denman dodges the CF Orr she will be close to $1.50 and will brain them!

Pluggerduck

TIPPER you can get close to that on the tab taking the double. Why not put what you expect to get back on this race on the the doncaster fixed. Eg. 100 lvl stakes = 170 at watever price your bookie has it in the doncaster. That way if it runs extremely well in the orr but doesn't win your not out and still get the better odds.

Leeroy

whatashotbyseve

 wrote Feb 7 2010 at 3:21am2010-02-07 03:21:41

Well his first two runs are definitely the Autumn Stakes in a fortnight then the Australian Guineas. If he runs in the Doncaster (and I'm not sure if he will... surely the Derby is a nice aim?) he either goes into the Phar Lap two week after the Guineas, then the George Ryder at WFA two weeks after that, then the Doncaster, or Bart would give him three weeks before the Doncaster/after the Guineas and run in a race like the Ajax. Like Chilli said in the other thread, I suspect Bart's main aim in the cups in the spring so he will probably have a light prep in the autumn.

Moonshine

Fair enough but i love the Doncaster so id like to see him there. I dont agree with Rangirandoo being favorite as he is with my bookie. Im looking at what i can afford to lay him for on bet fair. I rate More Joyous as an absolute freak and capable of doing something ridiculous this year as it gets older and hopefully more manageable.

Does anyone have any stats on 3yr olds vs older horses?

chilli

 wrote Feb 7 2010 at 8:02pm2010-02-07 20:02:19

it would be an ok stat... has been some gun 3yr olds in the donny... mouawad, haradasun from top of my head... i did some basic work before and i ended up with the theory that 3 yr olds are a more than viable proposition in the Donny... the good ones always seem to run well... even when they are unfairly weighted...

Weekend Hussler!? Not sure if he's in early Donny markets (haven't looked myself) but I might plonk a few bob each way if he is. Rangirangdoo is a quality horse and he'll get a chance to prove how good he is over the next few weeks. I very much doubt Typhoon Tracey will go to Sydney, as I said in another post somewhere that from what I understand she will run in the Futurity and then board a plane to the desert, what race she is being set for in Dubai exactly I'm not sure but that's where I think she'll go. What about Metal Bender? Is he fit again or still injured or what's happening with him coz I think he's a star in the making...Whobegotyou for mine is the one to beat at this stage though.

As you know HM Sunline won the Doncaster twice (1999 as a 3yo & 2002)..........her 2002 win came after she won the Coolmore Classic for the 2nd time with 60kg............in the Donny she carried 58kg and defeated Shogun Lodge(58kg), and broke his heart.........with Defier 3rd under 51.5kg. She then went on to win the wfa All Aged Stakes by 6Lengths..............

toptipster

 wrote Mar 1 2010 at 11:14pm2010-03-01 23:14:26

Additional info:....

1999 Doncaster Hcp..Sunline won as a 3yo carrying 52kg. She beat another 3yo(c/g) called Lease who had 49.5kg.
2000 Donny..She carried 57.5kg when narrowly beaten by Over (3yo c/g) who carried 51.5kg
2001 Donny..Did not run
2002 Donny..As stated above she carried 58kg

To ask Tracy to carry 56.5kg is a bit much when you consider Sunline's record before she was asked to carry 57.5kg as a 4yo....

Agree with Seve, TT and Danleigh have the runs on the board where the others are 'improving types' or 'potentially good horses' etc. I honestly think it's a two horse race now with about 5 or 6 battling for third but I'll be very very very surprised if Danleigh or TT don't win. Even Rangi I think is just out of their league at the moment and TT may well be in a league above Danleigh again.

Im about to throw in a spanner for your ideal DONNY double hit... there is a kiwi coming over who has to carry the ALLIN CHILLI curse on his back admittedly... but i unloaded a bit at 26s and also got him in a $50 e/w double with shoot out at 208-1 as well as into SHOOT OUT, FAINT PERFUME and MOATIZE all e/w at 7488-1. Now that he is into 15s from 26s its time to tell you why...
He broke his maiden status this time last year 2009.... first up over a mile thank you. He then progressed to a 0-70 over the mile where he threw the race away by running all over the show... he then raced again at the 0-70 winning by 3.5L hands and heels after a 60 day freshen up.... impressive effort... after a 30 day freshen up he raced again over a mile in 0-80 and won untouched... 35 day freshen (we are now in OCTOBER) raced in a 0-90 and out a handy field of older tough gallopers to sleep at the 200m... 28 days later he won the REDCRAZE BOWL (open class over 1400m) on a slow track by 4.5L... untouched as an unbackable favourite! 11 days later he won the G2 BAKERIES MILE beating the very impressive genuine G1 gelding TELL A TALE by striding forward from midfield at the 400m mark and hands and heels to the line. So to summarise this prep he has gone from a maiden in APRIL over a mile to a G2 in NOV over a mile... all on 30 day freshen ups absically.. his record (ignoring his first two career starts when typically montjeu wasnt ready to race 2008.. funnily enough he debuted at 60-1 and threw it away at the 200m... stable OUCH) 7 starts 6 wins 1 2nd (threw it away)... his record over the mile 6 starts 5 wins 1 2nd.
In his current prep he resumed in the G1 TELEGRAPH over 1200m which incidentally was the first time he had been over even money fave since his maiden win. Hooked back from the wide draw and at the 500m mark you wanted to put your house on him... struck trouble at the 400m, nearly fell, balanced again and ran home from last on the turn to within 5.5L of the winner (which was a huge run as well) and 3L behind the 3rd horse... 2nd up he tackled the THORNDON MILE (55kgs) off a 7 day backup... making his trademark surge at the 600m coming from 12th to midfield on the turn to hold off the charging LORD TAVISTOCK (subsequent G1 WAIKATO SPRINT and G2 BLAMEY winner).
3rd up off a 4 week break he tackled the G1 FAIRDALE CLASSIC MILE at WFA as unbackable short priced fave... forget he went around as he raced fiercely and was more forward in the run than ever before due to farcical pace.
4th up he dropped to a G3 mile and won accordingly making his run early and forging to the lead and holding them out winning by 1.3L after looking a sitting duck.
Record since maiden win now reads. 11s- 8w- 1sec. Mile record reads..9s- 7w-1 sec. G1 winner, G2 winner, G3 winner over the mile.
There is only showers forecast for the FRIDAY so i daresay we are looking at a GOOD track otherwise i would declare him a morale in the soft... as it stands not as suited on the firmer surface but with 53kgs you cannot ignore this bloke as a genuine contender.. TT 56.5kgs... DANLEIGH 57kgs. Look out!

Convincing argument Chilli, i like it! has looked a potential Superstar from day one, there was NZer that won the Thordon in 08, that in my opinion had we got a good/dead track and had it not drawn 18 would have gone very close in the donny last year, it's effort to run 3ls back was massive.

Wall Street in this up to it's eyes IMO, i love that fact their are some real genuine milers in it this year.

Molanski13

 wrote Apr 12 2010 at 3:44am2010-04-12 03:44:12

It's a very good record Chilli but I still think it's barely comparable to Danleigh and TT. I just think some people might be over thinking this a bit like some did in the George Ryder. Make no mistake, Danleigh was going well away from them on the line in the Ryder and TT is just TT. I sometimes question the NZ sprinter mile form coming over here as I don't think they have much depth in that area and a horse like Danleigh has beaten very good horses over here in the last 12 or so months.

I don't care where TYPHOON TRACY draws she's so versatile, she can win off a slow speed, she blows them away when they go hard running outstanding overall time, she excels on a firm surface and has the polish of the great jockey / trainer combination. She is also a princess on raceday she doesn't get too worked up and loves the challenge and she's a fighter. She has all the characteristics of a champion and will show this come this saturday. She will win

I can't even believe you can put DANLEIGH in the same breath....DANLEIGH needs the speed on to even be any chance of running a place and can't beat TYPHOON TRACY under any circumstances. if TRACEY wins this with 56.5kgs PLUGGA she is the best horse in AUSTRALASIA no doubt in my mind at all... can see why you would want to back it but i balk at taking 3s about a highly weighted girl in an open handicap facing by far her toughest test... in saying that would i blink if she won by 4lengths.... nope. WALL STREETS record is as perfect as you could possibly get for a horse coming over from NZ with 53kgs over the mile. Not just that but his racing pattern is to hang back and push forward midrace and then mantain a strong sprinting finish... exactly what you want in a DONNY.

Many more leader onpacers have won the DONCASTER chilli so i am not sure why you would want to hang back..make a sustained run and finish strong especially against an onpacer like TYPHOON TRACY
She's been heavily backed since she was confirmed to run in last week...she opened at $4.80 and i backed her at $4.40. The barrier draw will not make any big difference to her.

Do people pay you guys for these tips?!?

Firstly, 4YO's have a shocking record in this race having won only 1 of 18 events. Beaten 4YO favourites include Apache Cat, Lohnro, Sunline.
Secondly, wide barriers are not a disadvantage in this race with runners drawn barriers 9 or wider winning 14 of 18 events.
Lastly, Sydney based horses have dominated this race with only 1 winner coming from Victoria.

Personally, I think TT will do it tough against this stronger field with 56.5kg. At $2.90 she is very short.

I like Rangirangdoo & Danleigh are the ones to beat here. Mentality is a good roughie for the multiples as he seems to love the randwick mile.

Molanski13

No one pays me for my tips lightred. And just be interested to know how many horses have come into this having won 4 group 1s in their last 4 starts? She is short because she should be short! You'd be mad to have her above $3, on form one can't really pick against her...

Danleigh is one of my favourite horses and I think he's a beauty but the fact of the matter is, unless the track is slow, which seems highly highly unlikely then he is highly unlikely to beat TT home. He's a great horse but he needs some give to be at his very best which he will need to be. Rangi is a very consistent type but is still yet to win at this level and he's not in TT's class. Theseo will find it very difficult coming back to 1600 from the wide barrier I think and Palacio needed to draw wider than 3 I reckon.

lightred

 wrote Apr 13 2010 at 10:03am2010-04-13 10:03:31

Tyhpoon Tracy is a great horse, she does have awesome acceleration so she will look the winner at some stage & it wouldn't shock me if she did win.

However, if you look at her last 4 starts, two were against mares only, not to mention the last race where the field was terrible. Just looking at her formline, her weight, never running at randwick & I think there are a few question marks for a $2.90 favourite.

Agree that Theseo will find it difficult coming back to 1600m. Theseo and TT should give them something to chase home down the straight that's for sure.

Doesn't surprise me 4YO's have won 1/18. The Doncaster has always been a 3YO's paradise! In the last 10 runnings, look at how many times a 3YO has won it - 2008 (Triple Honour), 2007 (Haradasun), 2006 (Racing To Win), 2001 (Assertive Lad), 2000 (Over), 1999 (Sunline), (and should also have been Whobegotyou last year!). So it's misleading to suggest TT won't win especially in a year where no 3YO's are engaged. No need to overthink this. She won't be beaten.

Yeah Chilli has a (bad) habit of talking us into things podo...ha ha...again I find myself maybe thinking a little save couldn't hurt but I just think TT will be too good here. I seem to recall she won the Coolmore last year from about barrier 15...different race and field but I don't think it'll be a problem. I admit there are a few queries on her here but she has done everything asked of her to this point and then some and had she not been set for the Plate last year could well be undefeated. I'll be surprised if she doesn't win, the trifecta however is far more interesting...I suspect it'll pay quite well even if the fav wins becoz there's bound to be atleast one run a place at big odds...

My thoughts are around Rangirangdoo, Typhoon Tracy, Road to Rock(even though I dont like this horse) .
Others I am considering for Multi bets Mentality(when was last time it had 51.5kg!!??) and Allez Wonder wont suprise me to turn its last start around.

I knew Leeroy was gone as soon as I read this:

Leeroy commented on doncaster handicap2d 15h ago

"Have snapped up the $3.50 available after taking $4.20 last week......I'm betting this week to get a bank to just smash her again. "

Hardly the actions of a sensible punter, nor a punter with any money. FFS. He's obviously taken the bet with me thinking he couldn't lose, and now that he has, he can't pay and he's gone underground. Can't wait for the excuses to start if and when he surfaces. Should be priceless. This bet has been worth exposing him as the pretender he is. What was he going to smash TT with? Nothing. No one with a proper punting bank thinks like that, and he's made it clear he didn't have one of those. Only desperates think like that. Ridiculous.

Plenty of sh*t talk before the race.... Now all the champion tipsters are a bit quiet.

It's like a playground isn't it? Plenty of bravado until someone cops one on the chin. Surely $100 is loose change to a bloke who 'smashes' horses on a regular basis.

Just back from a couple of days away that I needed to recover from Tracy's abysmal run in the Donny.........I thought she was a certainty and bet up accordingly...........well done to all those who Laid her or bet against her.

lightred.........not "sh*t talk"......nor "champion tipsters"...........just opinions shared by countless other punters around the country..........that's what this site is all about after all........... And remember, what goes around comes around buddy.......good punting.

If there are some Tracy fans out there, I wouldn't drop off the mare on one run. It was a tough race, they don't give away Doncaster's. It's like taking on a pack of bulldogs, a real battle. She'll win more races no doubt. Moody has shown he can pick his targets and she is undoubtedly talented.

Full credit to the winner and to the runner up. Interesting to see what difference people think the 1.3kg made.....did it cost the runner up the race? The way Nash had to carry Rangi from the 100m mark, I reckon quite a few would say yes.

i think the fact TT wasnt set for the race also didnt help her... it was an afterthought from moody wasnt it??

What also didn't help was the virus around the stable during the week, and being galloped on.

And she was nobbled by George Freeman...

I'm not sure that could be quite right. I believe George was out of the country.

it's easy to say after the fact I know... so maybe I should just shut up now... but surely this was one of the easiest Doncasters in the last few years to tip the winner.... IMO there was only 3 or 4 real winning hopes, Tracey did exactly what I suspected which was look like the winner at one stage then get overwhelmed by a wall of horses, Danliegh would surely get too far back and wasn't soft enough for him and Rangi would be right up there in position ready to pounce making his own luck with the master Nash aboard, I couldn't believe the $7.50s on race day and dived into it.... I did actually put in tips that day too as proof to my claims, so glad Rangi finally shows what he is really made of and I almost sacked him after the Theseo defeats! woo hoo Go Rangi!

Didn't xxMETxx just tell us he picked it before the race, and tipped it?

You know how it works TT........much easier to pick the winner after it ran than to own, train, or ride the winner!

I got out ok. Layed the fave, small bet on Palacio ew (missed the start, who saw that coming?) and a tiny little sneaky ew bet on Drumbeats. I wish it had run 3rd.

Wish I'd got out ok. Had my life savings on TT thanks to the blokes on this site.

My comment was not meant as a negative reflection on MET or his post Sinestro......just a comment on how difficult this game is.........good on him I say.........:-)

I had my chance to get out as well dr.whiz........backed Tracy at $4.20..........could have laid her at about $3.00 from memory.........but let it ride.........into oblivion!!!.....:-(
