Vern's thoughts on the feature race in Hong Kong today:-
Glorious Days:-
Has only had the two runs in Hong Kong but both have been very good and winning both. Not overly flattered with the handicapper giving him the same weight as last start at class 3 and today at class 2 for the first time but he certainly looks like a nice horse and gate 4 and Douglas Whyte he has to be a very good chance once again.
Time after Time:-
Is the only other runner under double figure odds at this point and his form has been good this time in winning one, all be it at Happy Valley then placed on two other occasions and close up on another. Certainly looks like the next best in this race and has to be some consideration even from the grandstand as he has the ability to close off well and I am sure that is exactly what Darren Beadman will do on this occasion.
Adoration:-
Another good runner who has drawn wide here in gate 12. He is coming back from Class 1 over the 1650m on the Dirt but he has won over this distance and placed twice late last season over this distance at this class. Will run his usual honest race and a certain exotic inclusion.
New Vision:-
Looks like a certain BOLTER if his current odds of 18/1 stay there about. He hit the ground running this season winning both his first two runs which were over this distance, one at class 3 and the other at this class which is pretty good form. He then ran 6th at Class 1 but only going down by 2 lengths on that occasion in a very strong race won by the very promising Captain Sweet. Looks sensational value on a repeat of that form.

Vern's thoughts on the feature race in Hong Kong today:-
Smart Giant:-
Is most likely the one to beat here going on his last start win over this distance at class 2 which he won by 3 1/4 lengths. Actually goes up 3 Lbs on that win but looking at the ratings here he should go very close once again. Gone through the classes and distances very well and certainly appears to be an improving type and should eventually get into Group races
Ziadan:-
Only the three runs this season but he has been going along quite well finishing 4th and then 3rd at his last two starts. Slight drop in the weights but he has to come under consideration on that recent form which has all been at class 2 this season.
Let Me Handle It:-
Has had the three runs this time in and should strip fitter for that. This distance is more his go after those warm up runs and has to come under consideration especially after his last start 2nd over the 1400m when he closed off very well. This race may very well suit at this stage of his preparation.
Bit of a line up for the next best but if having an exotic you would have to throw in No 8 Beauty Touch, No 13 Liberator and No 14 Hear the Roar.

Vern's thoughts on the feature race in Hong Kong today:-
THE CHINESE CLUB CHALLENGE CUP ( HANDICAP ) GROUP 3 %u2013 1400M

Captain Sweet:-
Really does deserve his chance at Group level. Never been out of a place since arriving in Hong Kong at his 12 starts and has not had the best of barriers or his win record would have been much higher. Very nice horse that will be extremely hard to beat from gate five today and the distance is spot on. Very good chance today.
Admiration:-
Extremely consistent race horse and always gives 100%. Well weighted on 126Lbs and has lost nothing on Brett Prebble taking over today as Darren Beadman has his duties with Captain Sweet but has to be a chance today and a certain exotic inclusion.
Sichuan Success:-
Has won at this level before and just been cursing this season and in better class races than this. Has to be right in this after finishing 5th in the G1 Hong Kong Mile at his last start. Drawn a bit wide but is too good to leave out.
Longwah Supreme:-
Has to go in as a light weight chance as he has performed very well since arriving in Hong Kong . Carried 133Lbs at his last start at class 2 and finished 4th but not all went his way on that occasion and can improve on that effort especially with only 113Lbs to carry today.
Leading City , Beauty Flash and Sweet Orange also are exotic chances. Great Race.

RACE 10: New Vision:-
Very consistent type who has to be another very good chance once again today. Always gives 100% and you cannot ask for more than that. Ran a very nice race to finish 2nd last start behind the very promising Glorious Days and even from gate13 today he has to be in this right up to his neck.
Voile Rough:-
Shocking draw in gate 14 but he has won at this class from gate 13 this season and certainly has to be right in consideration once again after his recent good form at Class 1. This distance is certainly his best and if he gets a nice sit he certainly will be hard to hold out.
Kyara:-
Appears to get his chance today with 122Lbs and gate 4. Has not been far away all season and if he gets the breaks he will be right in the finish here at nice odds.
Open Sesame:-
Has been in sparkling form recently and deserves his chance at Class 2. Not 100% sure he will measure up but he has to come under strong consideration as a certain value selection after winning his last two starts over this distance at class 3 and dropping 12 Lbs today and he does have gate 1 so he has to get into this with a serious chance if he can repeat either of his last two starts.
No 1 Amigo and No 12 Gift is Gift have to go in as well if having the exotic selection as they both also have a good chances in a very competitive race.

Vern's thoughts on the feature race in Hong Kong today ;-
THE KENT & CURWEN CENTENARY SPRINT CUP %u2013 1000M HK-GROUP 1
What a puzzle this race is. A distance which does not suite almost all of these but it is a G1 and the stakes are high. Have to look at the barriers and the front runners:
Little Bridge:-
Has won over this distance on four occasions in Hong Kong but not at this class. But the fact that he can race at this distance he has to go in as not many of these have. A pretty good 4th last start at G1 and his track work along with Sacred Kingdom has been first class.
Eagle Regiment:-
Big class rise here and it is at set weights so he has to go at it with the big boys today. But having said that he go's extremely well over this distance and for that alone he has to be a good chance today when you look at his sectionals as he has progressively got better and would not have to improve too much to be right in this up to his neck.
Sacred Kingdom:-1
Been a great sprinter over the years and can get into this easily. Did not jump on terms last start and picked up the pace and was making ground in the middle stages before running out of puff. If he jumps on terms today he will be going flat out come the 200m mark and should be closing off very well.
Lucky Nine:-
Never raced over this distance before but he is a good sprinter who has won at G1 level. Reckon 1400m is his pet distance and also go's great at 1200m. Class will carry him a long way in this race but may very well find it too short but he will be closing off well and cannot be ruled out and a certain exotic inclusion.
Joy and Fun:-
Nice gate in barrier 10 and should get into a good position from there. Been going along very well and finished a very good 2nd at G1 last start over 1200m at Sha Tin to be just beaten by Lucky Nine . This distance is tricky for most of these runners but if Joy and Fun gets ahead early he should prove hard to hold out. BOLTER.

Vern's thoughts on the feature race in Hong Kong today.
Horse Galore:-
Cannot get any more consistent that this horse. Placed in ten out of twelve races last season and already this season he has already won one and 2nd in another all at this class. Ran into a bit of trouble at his last start at Happy Valley but has trained on exceptionally well and has to go extremely close today.
Crown Witness:-
Having his first go at this class today but he has been very consistent in the lower classes and looks weighted ok with 121Lbs. Exotic inclusion with an outside chance.
Vital Flyer:-
Been racing in some pretty good company so he has to go in with a chance today with only 123Lbs to carry and gate 1. Brett Prebble is in the saddle and he closed off very well at class 2 over the 1000m with 131Lbs last start so should be ready for the extra 200m today.
Charles The Great:-
Newcomer from the UK and straight into Class 1 which is always a good sign. Lightly weighted with 113Lbs and his trials and track work have been good so I have to throw him in on the strength of his easy last start trial win.
Throw in King Mossman if having an exotic.

Vern's thoughts on the feature race in Hong Kong today:-
This is the one of best Mile race's you will see, absolutely awesome. Sensational.
Ambitious Dragon:-
Well this is now the year of the Dragon and maybe he can get a bit of a roll on here. Set the world on fire last season with great results after coming through the classes winning one at G1 and two others at HKG1. Won first up over 1400m this season at HKG3 and at his last start he finished off well at G1 to just go down by 1 ¼ Lengths. Has not had a run since 11/12/2011 so he will be fresh and can really get into this with a fresh pair of legs. Looks a good chance today.
California Memory:-
Certainly has the ability to win this race. He has been a sensational horse since arriving in Hong Kong. The 2000m is more his go but has to be a very good chance today. Will be ridden quietly and let loose late. Might be a bit tricky from gate 2 but is too good to leave out.
Extension:-
Just loves this distance and has to go in with a good chance today. Been racing in very good class races and mostly at Group level and performing very well so this is a bit of a step down, he just has to get a trail in from gate 12 and he will be right in this.
Thumbs Up:
Another who has not had a run for almost 7 weeks so he should be fresh. Ran a great race over the 2400m at G1 last start but most of his success has been over this distance. Been a very good miler in Hong Kong over the past two seasons so a win at very nice odds would not surprise.
Able One:
Been one of the best Milers in Hong Kong for many seasons now and did his record proud with another great win at G1 last start. Not sure if he can do it again but the old fella does not know when to sit down and could very well knock them out once again. You just never know but as a 9 year old it is a tall ask but you just have to throw him in the mix,

Vern's thoughts on the feature race in Hong Kong today:-
THE CHAIRMAN'S SPRINT PRIZE %u2013 1200M HONG KONG GROUP ONE
Lucky Nine:-
Gate 3 and Brett Prebble has to be a good chance today. Not sure if he is ready for this distance as his warm up first up run over the 1000m was a bit Luke warm but that distance is certainly not his go. With a good run he certainly will be in the finish and is far too good to leave out here. The 1400m Is really his go and if there were more group races over that distance his ratings would most certainly be much higher. Good chance today.
Rich Unicorn:-
Closed off very hard over the 1000m last start from 11th at the 200m and should be ready for this distance. Loves the set weights and has to be right in this.
Joy and Fun:-
Even though he is an 8 year old he appears to be really enjoying his racing of late and he has run 2nd at G1 and HKG1 at his last two starts. If he holds that kind of form he will certainly give this a shake and if so just may be eyeing off a trip to Dubai for the big sprint.
Sacred Kingdom:-
Far too good to leave out. Missed the start slightly and never really got into it and proved difficult to settle last start. That was from gate 14 and has not done much better today in gate 12 but if he jumps on terms the gate should not be a problem as he will be set alight about the 300m mark and will be doing his best work over the concluding stages. Has to go in as a chance.
Eagle Regiment:-
Have to throw him in but I do have concerns over this distance as all his runs bar one have been over the 1000m. At his only start over the 1200m he lost a plate and was never in with any chance so it still remains to be seen if he will run out a strong 1200m. His Hoop believes he will so he just may but this is a very strong sprint race and I would suggest he is an exotic inclusion and should run well.

Vern's thoughts on the feature race at Sha Tin this afternoon.
THE CENTENARY VASE (HANDICAP) GROUP 3 %u2013 1800M
Only a small field but an interesting race just the same.
Pure Champion:-
Had a go at G1 and G2 this season and went well then he came out last and won at HKG3 over this distance. Goes up in the weights today by 13 Lbs but appears to carry weight ok so he has to have another good chance today.
Jacobee:-
Ran a fairly good race when beaten by 4 ½ lengths be Pure Champion last start but he does meet him 10Lbs better under handicap conditions today so I am going to throw him in as a bit of a chance.
Packing OK:-
Good middle distance performer and fairly consistent as well apart from his second last start when he found the G2 a bit rich. He carried 114Lbs last start when ½ length 2rd behind Pure Champion and he does meet Pure Champion 5 Lbs better off at the weights today with 122Lns so a repeat of his last run over this distance will certainly put him in the picture.
Beauty Lead:-
Certainly up in class today from his first and only start in Hong Kong when he appeared to be getting right into stride in the closing stages when he finished a nice 2 ½ Lengths from the winner at Class 2 over the 1600m at Sha Tin. On that occasion he carried 130Lbs and drops right back to 113Lbs today and could very well be a good light weight chance today and nice odds.

THE MERCEDES BENZ HONG KONG CLASSIC CUP %u2013 1800M HKG1
Ok; This is a very good race but the best chances have all drawn wide but I feel they also hold the key to this race,
Fay Fay:
Drawn the best of the runners to consider. Untried at this distance but gave the indication he should get the trip with his very nice 2nd last start over the 1600m at HKG1 when he was a bit unlucky and that was a very close up closing performance. Has to go close today.
Smart Giant:-
Ran a pretty solid race at HKG1 last start over the 1600m. He has won over this distance at Class 2 and has gone well at class one over this distance. Has to come under consideration in a strong field at set weights.
Sweet Orange:-
Certainly surprised a few last start when he won at HKG1 over the 1600m. Gets his chance one again as he is once again going up n distance. Just may be his go and I certainly have to throw him in on a repeat of his last start run as he looks great value currently at 10/1.
Captain Sweet:-
Never has much luck with the barrier draws and again has came up with a shocker in gate 12. Great horse who can close off very well and has to come under very strong consideration as he is certainly a class act.
Dan Excel:-
Has only had the one run in Hong Kong and that was straight into Class 2 over 1600m. Up in class today but not by much and he does look like a certain chnce going on his last start 3rd as he did close off very well and this distance looks ideal.

Vern's thoughts on the feature race in Hong Kong today:-

THE CITIBANK HONG KONG GOLD CUP-2000M- HONG KONG GROUP 1

Notes Good quality race this one and it should come down to two especially if we get a good tempo up front.
California Memory:-
My favourite race horse in Hong Kong. Came home very fast last start which really is his style. Ridden quietly and then set alight in the latter stages. This really is his distance and if Super Pistachio and Might High go out early he will be right in this up to his neck.
Ambitious Dragon:-
Set the world on fire last season with some very good wins as he was working through the classes. Won first up over 1400m then not that far away at his next two starts before returning to the winners list last start over the 1600m so there may have been a fitness issue there but he has won at G1 and HKG1 over this distance and if he is on the job he will certainly be hard to hold off.
Extension:-
Very good quality race horse this one and he has the ability to win this the same as the other three selections. Ran a very gutsy 2nd last start over the 1600m behind Ambitious Dragon and the extra distance should work in his favour this time around and will give a good site today.
Thumbs Up:-
Just may be the knockout runner in this race as he has been going very well this season and closed off extremely well at his last start from 11th on the bend to run a 2 ¼ lengths fourth to Ambitious Dragon so you would have to think that the extra distance today will suite and that appears exactly what the trainer has in mind in relation to setting him for certain races.
Exotic Race of the day for me.
Throw in No 4 Irian if having an exotic as he just loves this distance. %uF04A

THE QUEEN'S SILVER JUBILEE CUP %u2013 1400M-HONG KONG GROUP 1

Notes Exceptional form right across the board here and should be a very good race without doubt.
Lucky Nine:-
Should be ready for this distance now. I feel this is really his go and has to be the one to beat here. Ran a very good 2nd over the 1200m last start coming from 7th on the bend to just go down by ¾ of a length so on that performance he has to be the one here with the extra distance. Set weights and gate 1, Brett Prebble in the saddle he certainly looks hard to hold out.
Leading City:-
Not sure if he can run out a strong 1400m at this level but he did run a very good 4th at HKG1 last start over the 1200m. He has speed to burn so he should set a solid pace which will certainly suite Lucky Nine. But should run a cheeky race.
Glorious Days:-
There is no way you can leave him out as he has had 4 starts in Hong Kong and won all four. Drops 4 Lbs at set weights today and gate 6. First go at this class but all indications are that he will handle it well and again Douglas Whyte is in the saddle and he just may have a huge day today. Certainly has to be right in this.
Admiration:-
Has been running in Group races all season all but one race this season and the other won was at Class one when he won that day. Very talented race horse and his last start 3rd over the 1600m behind the very talented Sweet Orange.
Able One:-
Looks the smoker and even though he is getting older he certainly loves to run and even though the 1600m has shown to be his best distance over the years this may be suite better as he is getting on a bit but this 9 year old has won over 37 Mil in Hong Kong Dollars during his career which is no mean feat.

Vern's thoughts on the Feature race in Hong Kong this afternoon:-

THE HONG KONG MACAU TROPHY %u2013 HANDICAP %u2013 HONG KONG GROUP 3

A couple of new runners here who are straight into HKG3 which really makes you look very closely at these runners. Will be assessing them closely.
Crown Witness:-
Has not finished any worse than 2nd at his last 6 starts so that speaks volumes for this runner. Just fell in over the 1650m on the AWT last start. Versatile type and will have no trouble back on the Turf today. Gate 7 will be fine and Douglas Whyte is in the saddle once again. Has to be a good chance once again today and should anchor any exotic bet.
Noble Alpha:-
Consistent type who has put together some very nice runs at class 1 lately and should run very well today. Drawn well in gate 2 and Brett Prebble is in control. Certainly like his chances as he as the ability to sit and close off and also run an on paced race and hold on. He should run the on paced race today from the gate e has and run well.
Viva Pronto:-
Won this race in 2010 and certainly has the ability to perform very well here today. Macau runner who has came across for this race today.
Majestic Falcon:-
Been up and down in Class 1 and class 2 this season and has not been too far away and won his only start over the 1200 this season at class 2. Looks like he may be a light weight chance as he has dropped 11 Lbs on his last start run behind Fulfil a Wish who only drops 2 Lbs today on that win. So there is a 9 Lbs difference today but just the same I am going to throw in Fulfil a Wish as the BOLTER here as he is currently at 20/1 and if you can get those odds he is certainly worth a side bet.

Vern's thoughts on the feature races at ha Tin today:-

THE PREMIER PLATE HANDICAP %u2013 1800M %u2013 HONG KONG GROUP THREE

Notes Thumbs Up:-
Has been racing in some very good company this time in at G1 and other very good Group races. He goes up in weight today as a result of this being a handicap race compared with the set weights he has been running at, but he should be right in this as he has finished no worse that 5th this season and that was at his last start behind the very talented Ambitious Dragon over 2000m.
Pure Champion:-
Been an improving type at Group level all season and actually beat Thumbs Up home last start in that same race they both contested behind Ambitious Dragon so that certainly has to rate today. He also is up to top weight along with Thumbs up and along with other runners this should be a very exciting race. On a repeat of his current form he has to go close.
Packing Ok:-
Should be suited at this class and distance and he is certainly well weighted with just 121Lbs to carry today. I reckon he is the value selection in this race as he has won over this distance and class and also ran 2nd in another.
Fat Choy Oohlala:-
Has done it a bit tough this season as I feel the class rise this season has really sorted him out. But having said that I feel he is a good place chance today and has to be included with the exotics. Due for a change of luck and can run well today.

THE MERCEDES BENZ HONG KONG DERBY - 2000M- HONG KONG GROUP ONE

Sweet Orange:-
Has had a very similar preparation to the very well performed California Memory had last season and I reckon he has been set for this race as he appears to just get better as they move him up in distance to these type of races. He won over the mile last start at HKG1 beating Far Far by a very short margin then he came out last start over the 1800m again at HKG1 and stormed home from 14th on the bend to just miss by a nose. He has drawn a touch wide today in gate 10 which may actually help as he will most likely be taken back and set alight late as he did last start. Really like his chances today.
Fay Fay:-
Very hard to leave this runner out as his form has been outstanding since arriving in Hong Kong. He appears to have reached his peak at this level and although beaten by Ziadan, Sweet Orange and Dominate last start he will certainly keep them very honest today.
Dominant:-
Has only had the two runs in Hong Kong and has gone straight into this level of racing. Ran a super race last start to finish 3rd behind Ziadan over the 1800m after coming from 12th on the bend and looking at his overseas form he has won over this distance at Newmarket in the UK in some pretty good company.
Ziadan:-
Beat Sweet Orange home by a very small margin last start and I have the feeling that if Sweet Orange gets this trip than he should turn the tables today. Ziadan is also having his first go over this distance so at set weights today the odds have to be in his favour. Certainly has to go in as an exotic inclusion in a great race.

Vern's thoughts on the feature race at Sha Tin this afternoon:-

Race 9: The Castle Peak Handicap;

Notes Voile Rouge:-
This distance and class certainly suite. Rand a very nice race at HKG3 last start to finish only ¾ off the winner in a very good class field. Up only 1 Lb on that run and I have to give him a good chance today especially with Douglas Whyte in control as he has also drawn well in gate 4.
Time After Time:-
Has been very consistent this season and this looks like another race which will suite. Versatile type who has mixed his form with Sha Tin, Happy Valley and he AWT as well. Ran a fairly good race last start when he finished 4th at this class only going down by a length on the AWT so he has to go in as he has progressed through the lower classes and looks like a runner with a future and well weighted with 122Lbs today.
Fulfil A Wish:-
As got right back into form over this distance at his last two starts and I really like his chances today as his last run which was over this distance was at HKG3 when he ran a sensational race to just go down by a neck to Majestic Falcon and on that occasion he also beat a few of these runners home as well so you would have to think that a repeat of that performance will see him right in this up to his neck.
Penglai Xianzi:-
Been very consistent at Class one and class two for a long period of time which shows he is a very consistent race horse. He has won over this distance at class two this season and ran a very nice on paced 5th last start over the 1650m at Happy Valley. Drops back in distance but has drawn well in gate one which will certainly suite his on paced style of running and has to go in with a chance today. Bolter.

Vern's thoughts on the feature races in Hong Kong this Afternoon :-

THE CHAIMAN'S TROPHY %u2013 1600M %u2013 HONG KONG GROUP 2
Notes Smallish field but looks a bit tricky as a few of these could certainly surprise.
Glorious Days:-
Looks the one to beat here even though he has not won over this distance before. Has had just the 5 runs in Hong Kong but looks the real deal after winning his first 4 then just missing after closing off extremely well to just miss last start at HKG1. On that occasion he was beaten by the very well performed and group winner Lucky Nine by just a head. Certainly gives the impression that the extra 200m will be ok and will be rock hard fit as well.
Admiration:-
Very consistent race horse at this level and should run very well today with the set weights and carrying 123Lbs. The last time he ran at this class he was beaten by Lucky Nine and Glorious Days over the 1400m by 1 ¾ lengths. The extra distance will suite today as well so he should run well once again today and has to go in on his consistence alone at this level.
Sunny King:-
Has put in two very nice runs at his last two starts which have both been at HKG1. Pushed Lucky Nine and Joy and Fun to a length over 1200m then ran a great race over 1400m behind Lucky Nine and Glorious days and certainly has to go in as a value chance today on that form and a certain exotic inclusion.
Able One:-
Champion horse who has a great record over this distance in Hong Kong. Getting a bit older now and has dropped a bit in speed but just may get into this. Will get away early and depending on how many contest the lead he may run a cheeky race.

THE BAUHINIA SPRINT TROPHY (HANDICAP) 1000M HONG KONG GROUP 3

Many of the runners here are not particularly suited by this distance however some which have lesser form are. Not real easy here but will look straight at the form runners over this distance.
Little Bridge:-
His best form is over 1200m even though they have tried a few things with him and he can certainly go well fresh and he has been freshened up for this after about a 7 week break. Nothing flash in track work but that is not unusual for him as they prefer to keep him for race day. Just have to throw him in at the current price of around the 9/1 mark as he has been going great guns at group level this season.
Let Me fight:-
Ran a great race at HKG1 over this distance 3 starts back to just go down by a nose to Regimental Eagle and Joy and Fun who is off to Dubai for the big sprint there so that has to speak volumes for that run. Looks a great chance today on that form and gets in well at the weights as well.
Sacred Kingdom:-
Getting on in years and has not had the best of seasons so far. Been a very talented performer over the years and been 3 times horse of the year in Hong Kong. Multiple Group winner who can get right into this without surprise. Has to carry top weight again but has a nice draw this time in gate 5 which has to help as all his runs this time in have been from wide gates. Can certainly win this.
California Choice:-
Comes across as the best performed over this distance but the only problem is the class as he has not really got it together at HKG Class although he did run well at this level first up this season. Very well in at the weights with 113Lbs.

Vern's thoughts on the feature race in Hong Kong today:-

Regency Luck:-
Has been racing at class three all season with the exception of one race when he went up to class two over 1200m on the turf at Sha Tin and did not go particularly well on that occasion although it was found that he had lost a rear hind plate but he did come out and run a nice race at Happy Valley the next start then won well at Sha Tin on this surface last start. Certainly appears to appreciate this surface and the handicapper appears to have taken that into consideration as he has only dropped 4 Lbs on that Class 3 win. Still all in all 127Lbs is still ok and he should run well today from a good draw in gate 2.
Final Answer:-
Has not raced at class 2 for some time spending all his racing at class 1 and above. He goes just as well on this surface and has to come under consideration with the class drop today. Looks like one of the better chances for Brett Prebble today even with the top weight of 133Lbs.
I Smell Money:-
On paced runner who goes well on this surface. He is dropping back a fair bit in distance which is a concern but with his style of racing he just may be able to cope with that and with just 117Lbs to carry I am going to throw him in with some sort of a chance today and he should be at good odds as well. Apart from that I do like his name%uF04A.
New Glory:-
Been around for three seasons now and has not set the world on fire, however he has managed to win on two occasions this season all be it both at Happy Valley at Class 3. He has had a couple of goes at class 2 and has always drawn wide. Gets a better draw today in gate 4 so that should help and I am going to throw him in on those assumptions giving him a good place chance today and a nice exotic inclusion at each way odds.
