MARTINDALE HALL looks smart

There's a horse racing tomorrow at Doomben that should be at least equal fav and is paying $10 fixed odds. Blackwoods Choice in race 6 was going to be Group class according to his trainer before injury struck 18 months ago. He's had the one run in for an easy win at Ipswich carrying 57kg. He drops to 53kg tomorrow and the extra trip is even more suitable. Blackwoods Choice is the bet of the day anywhere in Australia at those odds.

Won well too mate, warmed up nicely but gee I know it's early but I have to question how far it can go in terms of distance but it was a good tip at odds mate. I wrote them both down before I went to the races but forgot all about them. Ironically the roughie won over an unsuitable distance and the won in the market over a suitable distance never looked like it.

TRENCHTOWN Bendigo R7 same deal Lee Freedman imported horse.
He behaved himself well and quickened nicely to the line without being put under any pressure. He finished 3rd, beaten 3.5 lengths . In short, he has learned how to sprint - an important asset in a Australian staying races and is almost entirely due to the Freedman's way of training. He has pulled up well and clearly enjoyed the outing and Lee feels that we can tip him straight into a 1600m and he would be fit enough to give it a shake up. The race Lee has in mind is at Bendigo, which is a class 2 - 1600m.

Formerly with Danny O'Brien. Now with the Mick Price yard. Had some very handy form last prep around Lakonian and No Jurisdiction, both whom are talented. This bloke trialled at Cranbourne on Oct 19 over 1190m and finished 2nd, 1.5L behind My Bentley who ran an enormous race yesterday at Bendigo. If he produces that trial, he wins.

Plenty to like about this mare by Belong To Me's trial on Oct 19 where she showed pace and dashed away to a 1.5L win over 950m at Lark Hill. She is drawn horribly for this assignment but her pace may see her get in. Stable is flying and the jockey, Alan Kennedy is in fine form at the moment.

The connections of this bloke rang me up earlier in the week and told me to get on it immediately. I had a look at his trial and boy oh boy wasnt he impressive. He won his trial by 5L in 57.9 over 1000m with his last 600m in 33.5... He is $3.50 in papers this morning. Based on that trial he should be odds on. He is too classy and should bolt in.

Had the 3 trials for a 4th at Belmont back in late October before recent trials at Lark Hill where he has finished 1st & 2nd respectively. Blinker horse who is built tall & relatively thin with a good natural speed action. Showed good speed in both recent LH trials. Drawn wide here but speed underneath him isn't flash, so should cross, travel & kick strong.

RACE 3: Life gets interesting when top stables start to reel out their good 2YO prospects.

The Gai Waterhouse-trained SR 3-3 EXTREME MOVER has looked the part in two trial wins and the stable mail is good for this Falvelon gelding.

However the John O'Shea stable is also keen on SR 3-9 SOLAR CHARGED, a brilliant winner of her only over 740m at Randwick when she ran faster time than Extreme Mover winning his heat on the same day.

No doubt she will go quick from wide gate.

SR 6-4 COURT (Clarry Conners) the classy gal looks trained up for a big return to racing judging by the way she has performed winning two recent trials at Rosehill and Warwick Farm. Notable that her race jockey Glynn Schofield has ridden her in both trials.VICTORIA

MR 6-10 ANAVALANCHE (Robert Smerdon) Another of the Tassie horses coming into the Smerdon stable and they definitely don't go backwards. This trip might be a touch short off his recent trial but look for a good run as he perhaps heads back for another tilt at a Hobart Cup.

QUEENSLAND

BR 2-6 HIGH CHANCELLOR (Robert Heathcote) did well to run second in the Doomben trials on 10 November. Most 2yos go best off the experience.BR 5-7 PRINCESS QUALO (Robert Heathcote) A 3yo filly who has been thereabouts in all her five runs. She won her trial by an easy 2.5L and must be a show in this type of race.

SOUTH AUSTRALIA

AR 2-4 REAL REDA (Phillip Stokes) Three-year-old filly making debut after a strong second in a trial behind Gunner Rock, who won well midweek. In leading stable and shows ability. AR 2-3 SUPER TUESDAY (Macdonald/Gluyas) also ran third in that trial but might find this a bit sharp. Both look to be going well and should run forward races, but will be pressed to beat the top two fillies I'm Discreet and Head Over Heels.

AR 7-10 KISS THE CASH (David Jolly) Has trialled well leading into her return. Goes well fresh, has no weight and is a get back horse with a big finish. Tough race but will be storming home late.

very speedy horse won by 8L ballarat 7/09 then failed at caulfield sat. 18/7/09 when fav. C Newitt reported at scale that in his opinion Gruenfeld was very disappointing even though he was obliged to race wide. A subsequent veterinary examination of the colt revealed no abnormalities other than a slower than normal recovery rate. froogy newitt since gelded for his unruly behaviour- sorry that should be horse gelded, tears to your eyes !!

Can't believe how bad it ran, it's maiden win was effortless on a heavy ground, UNItab punters seemed to know what was going on though.

I could have rode it better - 4 wide went too early - not a mick price presentation

'Eternal Sunshine', a film about a couple who has just broken up, and has decided to erase each other from their memories, through a radical, and quite suspect, brain treatment, an absolute mind boggler.

Froogy kills good horses. Tipped this horse today against my better judgement that newitt was aboard. Not much of a fan sorry.

Gruenfeld is a cat of a horse. No matter what it did in a trial, if you have seen this thing race before, you will know its no good. I have laid it everytime I see its racing. Lost as favourite on a few occassions.
Nothing to do with Newitt, its the horse.

Three-year-old filly who started favourite on debut back in July on a heavy Warrnambool track off the back of a strong barrier trial win but on a day the on-pacers dominated she never came into it. Has finished third in a trial leading into this and gets well in after the claim.

RUBUKKA (Rosehill R 6 No. 2) - has won three times from four first-up outings, in fact the only defeat he suffered was on debut and that happens to even the best first-up horses. The 1500m without a run shouldn't be an issue, he beat Vision and Power by 2.5L first-up over the journey at the top of last campaign. Has been well conditioned with three barrier trials, his most recent a searching five length win over 1200m at Warwick Farm. His work has been top class. No surprise to see him fighting out the finish.

As much as I love Gai and her horses, my advice would be to steer clear of them while she is on holiday. When she is away, they dont perform for her.

SCENT OF JOYwill have her first run at Newcastle on Saturday in Race 2 at 2:05pm over 900m. The filly by Redoute's Choice is a 1/2 sister to the 2003 GOLDEN SLIPPER winner POLAR SUCCESS.
The filly has shown ability in her trials. Last preparation she did run a close up second to noted speedster Cortina Gal over 900m before returning to the paddock. This preparation she has had two trials in winning over 740m at Randwick on 13/11 before a nice even effort when a close up 2.5 length 5th behind Exceed With me at Randwick over 1050m on 4/12.

Kevin Moses is happy with the filly's progress and is convinced xx will get their photograph taken in the winner's circle with this filly. First up the 900m may prove a touch short especially having drawn wide however there is little doubt as the distances increase slightly she will remain very competitive.

CANALI $5.wasn't Bart Cummings' kind of horse, but he will suit Darwin trainer Stephen Brown just fine after posting an impressive maiden victory at Morphettville yesterday.

The three-year-old displayed an abundance of jump-and-run speed in four runs for the Cummings stable earlier in the year.

He showed yesterday he had lost none of that pace by springing straight to the front in the Peter Sawrey Handicap (1000m) and giving a race-winning kick on turning for home.

Brown said he and connections had paid "around $80,000" for the colt, who had twice run in Group 3 company in Sydney.

"He wasn't for sale, but we chased him because we were after this kind of horse and I thought he would have been suited to racing here," Brown said.

"And because he's the kind of horse with plenty of pace, he's not the type that Bart Cummings tends to like.

"I actually figured he would have needed the run but I think he showed he's a pretty good little horse."

Future %u2013 Fates is a filly by the former staying three-year-old Kempinsky so for her to be showing natural dash in 800 metre trials suggests she's got her share of ability. Look for her in a provincial maiden, preferably over 1200 metres, and she'll be hard to beat.

Ring a ding ding,Clickety clack, the Pumpers back, climbed out of his sick bed to trial this horse who is stable mate and trialled with boom white horse the opera house. Has made dramatic improvement over the last two months of her preparation and taken major physical improvement from a spell.

She'll be hard to beat, but I was really taken by the trial of Shawnee Girl at Rosehill a couple of weeks back where she appeared to do it very well when she finished 3rd. She will love the the firm track and from the gun gate, she'll get the run of the race. Best bet of the night

Loved Alumbrado's first start win at Gosford. I don't normally bet on Sydney races however i'm curious about this horse. Currently $5.50 fixed at TAB Sportsbet. Going up to 1250m from the 1000m is a concern, yet looks a good e/w bet. Any more info on this horse?

I'd say steer clear of Alumbrado and look at Judicial or Metallurgical

The 12 and 15 are worth putting in the exotics.

Got out well and gathered in one on the outside by taking the rails run. Only thing is the horse didnt go around a single runner, but did rail well. Was under the whip in the last 75M when passed by Golden Heart and went down 1 3/4 len, in a respectable time. The horse looks to have plenty of ability and the winner is supposedly something special over the short courses.

Hi sandgroper I hope you don't mind me sticking my tuppence worth in the mix and you may be right about Warburg but I get suspicious when he is suddenly transferred to WA. The last three starts before his spell were not flash in fact the total preparation was very patchy apart from the 3rd at Kensington and all his wins were in the first preparation. Gerald Ryan would not let a prospective earner go easily. Also as a first up proposition I think today's distance appears to short for him - time will tell I guess. Finally there appears to be no barrier trials for this prep. Don't get me wrong I would love the horse to do well in the West for his owners but I will not be on him until he shows something. A suitable race in the provincials at the right distance may top him off for a mid week Ascot run.

gold coast R8 O'LONHRO - hasn't raced since failing in the Epsom Handicap last spring but an impressive track gallop between races at Rosehill last Saturday has convinced Team Hawkes to press ahead with Gold Coast plans.Lonhro was the best weight-for-age performer of his time, taking out 11 Group Is and 26 races in all from 35 starts, earning $5.7million in prizemoney. He was voted Horse of the Year in 2004 and O'Lonhro is a product of the now Darley-based stallion's first crop to race.
Why has darren beadman returned from HK to ride this horse ?

I haven't as yet rated the race and will give you a further reply when I have. However from 2 first up preps it has won and run 2nd. Despite this the task of winning 1st up over 1400M in a $500,000 race is not a pre ordained. The track is predicted to be Dead and O'Lonhro handles Dead and Heavy. With Darren it should be a good chance. There is no history of a Barrier Trial this preparation but as you say the track gallop was obviously pleasing.

O'Lonhro rates extremely well but not in the top two. It not a race I will be betting in because I think it is too hard. For mine I would like to see O'Lonhro have the run. There are still some doubts and I will probably eat my words but the tight track may not suit, as well as 1st up over the 1400M. To his favour he has a master horseman on his back, the pedigree, trainer and talent. I hope he wins.

The daughter of internationally renowned sire Cape Cross (Sea The Stars, Ouija Board, Seachange) was seen finishing her most recent trial off in stylish fashion, and under no real pressure from her rider. This was her first trial since May 2009, and by far the best trial performance from three career trials thus far. Drawn well in barrier three, she should get the world perfect run and looks ideally placed at 1400m first-up.

Lining up at Gosford for his first start, Intangible Asset, the older half brother to our Danzaura, allayed all of the fears of a nervous ownership to record a very soft win on debut. Turned out a treat by trainer, Gerald Ryan and ridden likewise by Tim Clark, Intangible Asset jumped well and sat outside the $1.80 hot pot. Nearing the turn, Tim had a lap full of horse underneath him while the favourite on his inside was struggling. Entering the straight, Intangible Asset coasted to the line to win unextended by 3.5 lengths. Oh, and it was in class record time. Next start, he was brought straight to town to try and make the most of his BOBS eligibility. While the plan did not work out, this is a horse which the owners are going to be having a lot of fun with in the ensuing seasons and is a definite for your black book.

Won a trial at Belmont in October for new stable when led and held on to score with no blinkers. Blinkers were added in a Belmont trial on January 11 and after being ridden with a sit, exploded to the front inside the 200 metres to win going away. There was a lot to like about the performance and from a good draw here for John Claite he should get his chance to show his natural gift.

Alot of hype around it! I hope it can live up to its trial form, it has been pretty awesome.

The jockey riding has very unimpressive stat's of late his last 50 rides(Starting price of $10 & under) have produced only 5 winners for a S/R of 10% and his last 200 rides only 28 winners at a S/R of 14%.

Rumour has it the Michelin Man could ride it and it would still win. But that's just a rumour.

Two-year-old TARLASSIC, a son of WA boom sire Oratorio, appears poised to win at his race debut for trainer Paul Jordan. Craig Staples, who will ride Tarlassic in tomorrow's Westspeed Two-Year-Old Plate (1100m) at Ascot, has a thorough knowledge of the gelding. Tarlassic won a 1000m barrier trial by three lengths for Staples at Belmont Park on December 7. Jordan has prepared numerous feature event winners since he became established as a Perth trainer more than 20 years ago and it appears Tarlassic will be another talented galloper for the horseman. His mission is likely to be the $500,000 Go For 2 and 5 Karrakatta Plate (1200m) at Ascot on April 17.

Speedy Natalie was a brilliant debut winner at listed level in Adelaide before not being suited by the tempo or distance when finishing fifth in the Rosebud on August 1.

"Not a lot went right for her the first time she went to Sydney," Moody said. "There wasn't enough speed on for her and the 1200 metres might have been a bit short for her.

"Since we brought her back home she's worked really well and she's going to be a chance again on Saturday."

Moody said Speedy Natalie's performance on Saturday would determine whether the stable progressed on a path towards next month's Group I Thousand Guineas at Caulfield.

Cross Street backed to win McNeil Stakes
Plenty of high-profile three-year-olds will run in Saturday's Group III McNeil Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield but bookmakers will be closely watching a debutant in the event.

The in-form Starspangledbanner will be out to complete a hat-trick of wins and the Peter Moody-trained pair Tickets and Wanted will resume in a strong line-up so the bookies will view the race as a handy form reference for the Caulfield Guineas.

The David Hayes-trained Cross Street has been the subject of a quiet plunge to win the Caulfield Guineas and is currently on the sixth line of betting for the $1 million event at $21.

Cross Street opened at $81 and now shares the same Caulfield Guineas quote as the Golden Slipper runner-up Headway and the Gerald Ryan-trained boom three-year-old Rothesay, a brilliant winner on debut at Rosehill in July.

TAB Sportsbet has reported a "nice little go" on Cross Street and will be anxiously waiting to see how Cross Street performs if he gets a run in the McNeil Stakes as the colt is currently equal 22nd in order of entry.

"He's probably our worst way in the race," a TAB Sportsbet spokesman said. "We opened him at $81 and they snapped that up pretty quickly and they are still enquiring about backing Cross Street at $21.

"We'll be keeping a close on eye on what he does on Saturday. Hopefully we can relax and wind his price out after the race."

Punters can get a guide on the chances of Cross Street in the McNeil Stakes after Hayes' assistant trainer Tom Dabernig told Racenet TV the stable would only have one runner in the $125,000 event.

"We have nominated three but we'll probably only accept with one horse," he said."Cross Street has got ability and has had two unofficial trials and things like that.

"He's a very good-looking horse and looks to have a very good constitution and hopefully he can do it under race pressure and he can contest the better races through the spring."
