THE STEWARDS ROOM

I know lots of punters on here review stewards reports on a regular basis. I am going to post luckless horses on here when I get the chance, and I invite you to do the same. It may assist those keeping BB's. I will kick off with one that was brought to my attention by Plugger in his Geelong Quaddy thread on the 4th January:

"Approaching the 100m Con Thrust was tightened for room between Livefasy, which shifted in slightly, and Street Eclipse which was shifting out. Con Thrust was then disappointed for clear running for the remainder of the race."

Con Thrust was beaten less than a length.

There is also plenty of "I thought there was something wrong in its action" only for the vet to find no abnormality....

DUEL SHOW (J. Stanley) raced three wide throughout.

When asked to explain the performance of DUEL SHOW, J. Stanley explained that after enduring a three wide run for a major part of the race, DUEL SHOW did not quicken under his riding in the home straight and in his opinion 'does not run out a strong 2100m', particularly on today's rain-affected track. A post-race veterinary examination of DUEL SHOW failed to reveal any abnormalities.

WHAT I WANT TO KNOW IS - J. Stanley, how did you end up racing wide for the entire race from barrier 5? And your horse is suspect at 2100m hahaha

Dener gave pretty much the same response in the LIVE BLOG when the stewards comments were posted there.

next run it will be at bloated odds and someone somewhere is going to have alot of moola on it and pay out big lol

Personally I'd be surprised if it was bloated odds next time out. The meeting at Doomben yesterday was a joke. I am not going to use it as a form reference in any way shape or form.

From the 28th January @ Morphettville:

"DELICIOUS BELLE (P Gatt) jumped away awkwardly and knuckled.
Shortly after the start DELICIOUS BELLE (P Gatt) shifted out contacting SPARKLING
VICTORY (T Pannell) taking that gelding out onto ZAKUMI (S Price), which lost its position
when tightened for room.
DELICIOUS BELLE lost its off fore plate during the event.
DELICIOUS BELLE sustained a minor laceration to the inside of the off fore heel during the
event."

DELICIOUS BELLE ran 2nd btn 3L

"GENEROUS BEAU (T Pannell) raced three wide without cover throughout the event."

GENEROUS BEAU won by 0.5L

It probably should be noted that a number of horses suffered from heat stress at this meeting.

From the 1st February @ Kembla Grange:

"C Reith (Shiso) was questioned regarding the tactics he adopted on Shiso particularly from the 600 metres. C Reith stated that in accordance with the tactics which had been notified publicly prior to the event he was to endeavour to ride his mount a little quieter and obtain cover. He added that after passing the 600 metres after earlier obtaining cover behind Enejo whilst his mount was racing keenly and despite being awkwardly positioned on the heels of Enejo he was reluctant to shift to the outside of that gelding bearing in mind his instructions and also as he anticipated Rapid Attack improving to the inside of Enejo which was weakening and moving wider resulting in that runner being taken out and forcing him wide rounding the home turn. He added that as a consequence when positioned to the inside of the heels of Enejo which continued to weaken he became held up for clear running in the early part of the straight prior to angling from behind San Jose passing the 300 metres to obtain clear running. He added when afforded clear running Shiso found the line particularly well. Stable foreman Mr B Widdup confirmed the instructions. C Reith was told that in the opinion of Stewards he had erred in that when passing the 550 metres he should have shifted to the outside of the heels of Enejo where that runner was weakening which would have afforded him uninterrupted running for the remainder of the race."

Shiso was btn 3.3L

From the 2nd February @ Ballarat:

"Vixen Hustler and Oracle were slow to begin. (2 lengths). Passing the 1100 metres Vixen Hustler was hampered when tightened for room by Profit Margin. In the early part of the straight Vixen Hustler had difficulty obtaining a clear run."

Vixen Hustler was btn 1.7L

From the 3rd February @ Moonee Valley:

"Existence was slow."

Ha ha! Good work Stewards. Yes, existence was slow. Btn 9L.

"Queen For Ninedays (NZ) was obliged to race wide in the middle stages without cover."

Queen For Ninedays was btn 0.2L

"Golden Ascent was held up for clear running rounding the home turn and did not obtain clear running until the 100 metres."

Golden Ascent started @ $51 and was btn 4L

From the 1st February @ Ascot:

'ENDORSED (Clint Harvey) %u2013 Slow into stride. Held up for clear running from on straightening until inside the 100m."

Endorsed was btn 1L

"SPLIT THE ACES (Peter Knuckey) %u2013 Held up for clear running for the majority of the straight."

Split The Aces was btn 3.5L

"FLASHY DOLL (Shaun O'Donnell) %u2013 Blocked from on straightening until taken inwards near the 100m."

Flashy Doll was beaten 0.5L

"BATTLE ACE (Jason Whiting) %u2013 Bumped and unbalanced leaving the 500m. Held up for clear running from on straightening until leaving the 150m."

Battle Ace was btn 2L

From the 8th February:

"Fine Feelings, Iridescente, Yoko and Skitter (NZ) were all slow to begin (one length)."

Iridescente was btn 1.2L with a further 4L back to 3rd

"Plucky Belle was held up from straightening until near the 250m."

Plucky Belle was btn 2L and started from barrier 15

From the 10th February @ Pakenham:

"From the 500 metres until the near the 300 metres, Snow Patrol (NZ) was held up for a run."

Snow Patrol won the race by 1L

From the 10th February @ Moonee Valley:

"Backen Lay jumped away awkwardly. Rounding the home turn Backen Lay was held up when unable to obtain a clear run. Backen Lay then raced tight between Sherpa and Mythical Spirit over the concluding stages."

Backen Lay was btn 4L

"During the above incident Rowland which had obtained a narrow run on the inside of Jelly Baby (NZ) was inconvenienced when Jelly Baby (NZ) checked. Rowland then had difficulty obtaining a clear run until passing the 100m."

Rowland was btn 3.2L

"Leonardo Express jumped away awkwardly striking the outside gate of the barrier and lost ground (two lengths). Near the 100m Leonardo Express, when making ground, was then disappointed for a run between Xavier and Set The Course (D Oliver) which was shifting in."

Leonardo Express was btn 6.5L but this is the second start in a row that he has made 'The Stewards Room'

From the 11th February @ Caulfield:

"Malasun over-raced in the early and middle stages. D Oliver was of the view that his mount had come to the end of its preparation"

This was Malasun's 2nd start this prep!

"Near the 1100m Manighar, which was over-racing shifted out momentarily when being restrained off the heels of Psychologist."

Good work Stewards. Psychologist wasn't even in this race!

"Hi Belle was held up rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight before gaining clear running near the 200m."

Hi Belle was btn 2L

From the 11th February @ Bendigo:

"Lost In Paradise was obliged to race wide without cover for the majority of the race."

Lost In Paradise was btn 0.8L

From the 9th February @ Gosford:

"Fletch was held up for clear running from rounding the home turn until passing the 150m."

Fletch was btn 2.7L and was ridden by 3kg App Serg Lisnyy. Look for a senior rider next start.

From the 11th February @ Rosehill:

"Passing the 300m Kuhreihen was disappointed for a run between Wild And Proud and Henshaw and then over the final 150m was unable to be tested when held up on the back of Mickelberg."

Kuhreihen was btn 1.5L

"Passing the 200m Strike The Stars was held up on the heels of Rangirangdoo and Shoot Out and had to shift to the inside of Shoot Out to continue its run. Again over the final 50m Strike The Stars could not be fully tested when held up on the back of Winter King."

Strike The Stars was btn 5.8L - look for easier than the Gr2 race this was..

From Thurs 1st March @ Pinjarra

A clanger from the WA stewards this time, who normally reserve such things for the Victorian stewards:
"THURSTUN LANE (SCRATCHED) %u2013 Crowded and eased near the 300m. Impeded for clear running over the final 100m."
