Hmm it a nice price for Marveen, but Huxssen in a smallish field is a big threat.

Really keen on Captain Coltish. Looks to get a cosy run here along side Danzylum and the $3.70 looks pretty good

Sorry Nudge but CC is the lay of the day as far as I'm concerned. Meets Huxssen worse at the weights for getting rolled and the extra journey only means Huxssen beats him by further. I can't believe the price about the 2 of them to be honest. It'll be reversed come Saturday...

Main danger to Huxssen is definitely Electromotive, and possibly Marveen out to a more suitable trip and fitter 3rd up.

Huxssen will be starting $2.80 or less. Crazy odds for it's dominant win against an arguably tougher field. Only concern is 0/4 at the track but this is his pet distance. Marveen the obvious danger out to a trip, throw Captain Coltish as the on pacer outclassed in the straight and there is your trifecta.

The outcome of this race will ultimately be decided by the tempo of the race...it's as simple as that.
If they run along like last start then HUXSSEN wins...if not then he won't.
Although i can't tell you who will win as CC is untried at the 1400m and DANZYLUM was dissapointing last start and this is what was written in the stewards reports..."M Allen (Danzylum) explained that his mount jumped awkwardly and at that point it may have struck itself but was of the opinion it was as the end of its preparation and Stewards will follow up with trainer Mr R Griffiths on Monday as to the future plans of Danzylum. A subsequent veterinary examination of the gelding revealed no abnormalities."
NO BET...Maybe CC if he gets a soft cart into the race like TT did but can't be confident he will run a strong Flemington 1400m and not willing to find out at 11/4 - 3/1..rather watch and maybe lay HUXSSEN in running watching the sectionals.

i had mail for both electromotive and marveen at previous starts and they both ran well with electromotive obviously winning, i can't see them winning this though as i think marveen may have slightly lost her turn of foot and electromotive may become a case of the 2nd up syndrome after some lengthy breaks.....as stated by pluggerduck huxssen will need everything to pan out for him to win but he is worth a bet at $4+......the one i like is silver bullion, has had a great prep so far and is really looking for the 1400m now after being a little flat footed then flying home behind electromotive, outclassed by top sprinters in the rubiton but there is no class in this and like i said he wants the 1400m

MARVEEN to outmuscle them... she will fight like a wounded tiger to hold them at bay.

I think this is a tough little race and am Leaning towards Danzylum. The drop back to Listed company will assist. Huxssen for 2nd and as pointed out by Whatashotbyseve has not run a place in 4 starts at this track, so that is a concern.Life to the Full for 3rd who has now struck some form and Electromotive for 4th who won 1st up and has sound 2nd up stats as well. I think Marveen with 55kg's and who loves Flemington is the big danger.

Huxssen will put paid to this field make no mistakes about it. Don't be concerned about his Flemington record. He raced in the Australian Guineas at group 1 level (beaten 4.5l), he carried 59kg in another, he was beaten 2.2l to All Silent in another (didn't have clear passage) and the other time he was ridden in behind tiring horses and didn't get a clear passage either. Trainer got his prep all wrong last time but it looks like the penny has dropped. He flies at 1400m (3 from 4) and 2nd up (2 from 3). He had legitimate excuses at all his runs last time in. He's drawn perfectly in 7 as he will be able to get to the outside and just go whoosh. This race should have good speed as Danzylum is drawn the outside and will go forward and Captain Coltish is drawn 1 so they wont be handing up easily. Huxssen will get back in the run but he will be close enough with the smallish field to finish over the top of em. Snapped up the $5

Don't think Danzylum should be in this race........ought to be in a paddock munching grass!!......Think CC will get an easier time in front than he did in the Hareeba........and will just keep going.......Huxssen won't get the pace to suit and will be running on as usual when it's all over....

Leeroy the size of the field is also very important for him if you loko at his record i don't think he's won a race with more than 11-12 horses in the field but his record under that is first rate, With only 9 here even if he drops back to last he should only have to make up 4-5 lengths and with his turn of foot should be easy even off a slow tempo.

Leeroy

I've heard Rodney Douglas say on a few occasions that this horse is one of the only horses he's seen that can reel off a sub 11 sec final 200m sectional. He has a devastating turn of foot at the end of his races (if not held up a la last prep) and I believe there are better races in store for him

There up now....had no chance because of the tempo

toptipster

Very good example of how tempo affects a race........I also don't think H is a 1400m horse.......1200m with the pace on & fresh is his go..........imho

Wasn't slow was it? Just even? and it's not run on at all.

toptipster

 wrote Mar 6 2010 at 6:30am2010-03-06 06:30:49

Steels....The Hareeba was run at a tempo of 11.62s/200m (0.18s/200m faster than the track standard for that distance)......they went quite hard first half and set it up for Huxssen.

Today's race was run at a tempo of 11.91s/200m (0.15s/200m slower than standard)......the three 1400m races were run at almost the same tempo......

Im pretty sure HUXSSEN can win even off slow tempo's but I think he actually has a brilliant yet short sprint. If you watch his wins its when he is bottled up with cover then he works his way THROUGH the field then when he finally gets clear running 100m out he explodes. At Flemington you need to be able to sustain your finish and I think that hurts HUXSSEN.

Molanski13

 wrote Mar 8 2010 at 3:05am2010-03-08 03:05:46

I agree with Infidel, they need to find a few 200 metre races for Huxxssen, preferably ones where is matches up against a greyhound so the pace is on for him. His sprint is devastating...devastating to everyone who backs him.

Honestly guys, he's just not very good, I've never backed him and never will, his sprint is good but it lasts about 35 metres, he had absolutely no excuses in this race and just plodded away, Greg Miles called it early that he was just going and he was beaten a long way from the post.

Leeroy

 wrote Mar 8 2010 at 6:58am2010-03-08 06:58:22

he made ground (around 4-5l on the leaders from the 400m) but tempo was not that strong up front as evidenced by the fact 1st & 2nd in the run quinella'd the race (The Sires for the 2yo's was run half a sec. quicker for the 1st 800m). What was he doing 9l from the lead at the 400m in a small field ??? Thats what I want to know...... I've backed him in all his wins so I'm not complaining, especially after his last win when they put up 10's and I took him for a stack !! Mr Baritone came out of that race and ran 3rd @ Warwick Farm and Captain Coltish won this out of the same race so I'm not dropping off yet. He had legitimate excuses in all his runs last prep and won a good race 1st up this prep. I hope they ride him a little closer and maybe dodge Flemington.

It has since been found that Huxssen has a virus of some sort and he didn't eat up on Saturday night. Probably explains why his performance was a little lacklustre.....

TheNudge

 wrote Mar 9 2010 at 6:01am2010-03-09 06:01:36

It was more than a virus on saturday... it was just awful. It needs everything to go its way to win... literally everything!

Over me 500s and I wouldn't back Huxxsen, Nudge is right. He needs EVERY little thing to go his way to win, most backmarkers need at least a little luck, he needs bucketloads.
