2 from 2 so far, so I thought I'd start a thread, nominating a horse to follow for the day.

Horse To Follow Today is:
SEYMOUR RACE 5 NUMBER 3 MY FREE WILL
Was going to win for all money last start but he just peaked on his run at the 150, which suggested he was still short in fitness. Today he will be cherry ripe, has the gun draw, gun rider in Nick Hall and all he needs to do is bring his last start form today and he'll go very close to winning.

TheNudge

 wrote Jul 30 2010 at 3:19am2010-07-30 03:19:21

Had every chance yesterday to win. Bit disappointing.

Horse To Follow Today is:
WARWICK FARM RACE 7 NUMBER 5 RAIN MELODY
Couldn't pick up with 58kg last start over 1400m. Her first up performance was super when doing all the work to chase down Concini. I think from gate One, Nash on Top, drop back in journey and in a somewhat easier race she can bounce back to score this afternoon.

BootWhip

 wrote Jul 30 2010 at 3:35am2010-07-30 03:35:39

If you're playing multiples in that race it's very much worth putting EXCELLENT POINT if it repeats it's last run on a wet track here it'll be in the finish

Pluggerduck

Skateboard is a promising horse nudge - looks as though it will race through the grades and should get too sat class but good luck

TheNudge

 wrote Jul 30 2010 at 6:34am2010-07-30 06:34:05

Skateboard will be hard to beat but the barrier is a concern, as is the track and the form that Corey is in at the moment, which is patchy.

BootWhip

 wrote Jul 30 2010 at 6:50am2010-07-30 06:50:13

Fan of Tonk but didn't think it was up to this, good tough win though in the best part of the track, runs of the 2 underneath it were great also.

Pluggerduck

 wrote Jul 30 2010 at 6:52am2010-07-30 06:52:14

I was hoping he would take a sit..4 wide was up against it, there's only one jockey i am confident on up there ! Nash..still 1/2l off the winner and will also appreciate a dryer track.

TheNudge

Yeah, Skateboard and the first three over the line were very good.

Just got pipped in a three-way thriller yesterday.

Horse To Follow Today is:
CAULFIELD RACE 7 NUMBER 8 WASSAIC
Very keen on this gelding this arvo. Led at a strong tempo and found the 59kg too much when beaten last start by St Clement Danes. Lovely 4.5kg weight drop today, firmer track will assist, as will the barrier (eight). He is a front-runner and the speed appears to be him and Beyond Pardon. With Kingy's cool pair of hands, he will get the gun run on the back of Beyond Pardon and with the 3kg weight pull in favour of Wassaic, I think the son of Elusive Quality will prove too good.

Pluggerduck

 wrote Jul 31 2010 at 12:03am2010-07-31 00:03:54

Nudge i'll let you know that newitt slaughtered Wassaic last start, would of won with a better ride. Note the "jockey change" ! Beyond Pardon is the one they all have to beat, has been in excellent form and with the scr of Comic composer looks the clear leader again and the one they have to run down. No doubt Wassaic has ability but it's figures are a bit below what will be required to win this. Should improve though with a better ride from S king. Good luck Nudge !

TheNudge

 wrote Jul 31 2010 at 11:57pm2010-07-31 23:57:11

That was a very ordinary ride from Maskiell on Beyond Pardon, the horse loves to roll along in front, you cant hold the horse back and sit three deep. Wassaic was very ordinary, looking at the Stewards report now and they vetted the horse after the race and nothing was wrong, whilst Kingy said that the horse hung in throughout the race.

Horse To Follow Today is:
WARRNAMBOOL RACE 2 NUMBER 8 SPARKING
I think he is a special today. Liked his run at Moonee Valley behind Tinamou when he got well back and ran on well at the end, suggesting that run was just to get the cobwebs out for this race today. He won well two starts back, even though his opponents weren't flash. The key today is jockey Steve Pateman. The horse loves being ridden cold and if the breaks go his way where it counts, with a 5kg weight pull over Some Are Bent, I think he'll win.

TheNudge

 wrote Aug 3 2010 at 1:55am2010-08-03 01:55:06

JOCKEY To Follow today is:
CHRIS SYMONS AT GEELONG
Has six handy rides today, and I got on him at $9.50 with TAB Sportsbet. Guaranteed points in Race 1 with Rock To Excess. In Race 2, Miss Underhill is first-up and did have good form last prep. Race 3 he rides Cool Cobra, who has been trialling well on the Synthetic surface. In Race 7 he rides Wakayama, who will appreciate the firm surface and the fact there isn't much pace here. Race 8 he rides Rhiannons Joy, a stayer who is first up, but I wouldnt be surprised to see her run on given the form that trainer Rick Hore Lacy is in at the moment and in the Last race he rides Marker, who will get a lovely run from the barrier. I think the $9.50 I got was brilliant. As I write this he has been backed into $8.

TheNudge

No points in Race 1= Symons at $21 now. Have a go at that. Yeah Reeso, I'd be very surprised if he doesnt win the Jockey Challenge at Sale.

Horse To Follow Today is:
RANDWICK RACE 5 NUMBER 11 DATS MA GAL
Given it is a bog track today, I am very keen on this mare and her chances today. Her three runs this time in have been good, which did include a win first up over Fairy Gumnut and Sunset Coast, who are two above average fillies. The scratchings make it a field of 11 which will suit her, as will the strength that Tye Angland has in his riding action. With luck in running, she will be awfully hard to beat.

TheNudge

 wrote Aug 4 2010 at 9:22pm2010-08-04 21:22:22

It was heavily backed from $12 into about $6.50 on track...It did absolutely nothing. She got caught deep but she was hard ridden about 500m and that was it for her.

sarathg

I think C Newitt is a good bet for the jockey challenge at Sale today.

TheNudge

After one race, I'd be surprised if Newitt beat Symons, but we'll see.

Horse To Follow Today is:
GOLD COAST RACE 2 NUMBER 5 ALONG CAME DOLLY
Got a long way back first up and ran on very well, albeit three lengths from the winner. Being by Hussonet, she'll relish the extra 200m, and today she has drawn perfectly in barrier one, so Kelvin Wharton has great options. I think she is the good thing of the day.

I couldn't get my tips in for today but I really like Mossurmi in the Coffs Cup.

sarathg

 wrote Aug 5 2010 at 4:21pm2010-08-05 16:21:20

I was thinking ur same thoughts Nudge but newitt node rode well and got the cash. I was quite happy after my bets only netted a win and placing with the tips. Think he may be a jockey to follow over the next few weeks with a few good rides booked. Resetting is a horse to follow i hear on the grape vine. Trainers used the race as an exercise for future races so follow this one.

Baroque Pearl got worried out of it.

Horse To Follow Today is:
MORPHETTVILLE RACE 1 NUMBER 2 HOLLOWLEA
Tragedy to see what happened to him at Moonee Valley first up. Rawiller had a stranglehold on him and the horse just couldnt a get a clear run and went to the line untouched. He doesnt meet strong opposition today and he should just about be winning today with any luck.

Horse To Follow Today is:
CRANBOURNE RACE 1 NUMBER 7 BEAUTY GENE
Been a hard horse to follow. Earlier in its career it showed ability but hasn't showed much since. However, with only a field of four this afternoon this could be her one and only chance to break her maiden status.

sarathg

 wrote Aug 8 2010 at 2:31am2010-08-08 02:31:33

Horse To Follow Today is:
RANDWICK RACE 4 NUMBER 9 ACACIA ALBA
This is the sort of race where a horse like Acacia Alba can bob up and win. Wasn't far away from Velocity Gal two starts back on the slow going then last start at Grafton had no luck at all behind Sukab. The 1400m suits, she will get a gun run from barrier two, Dan Ganderton is riding well and the field isn't overly strong. Looks to be great value today.

Pluggerduck

 wrote Aug 10 2010 at 2:47am2010-08-10 02:47:13

Nudge doesn't handle wet tracks too well and is a duffer in the heavy, am surprised the trainer is still running it.

You were right Plugger, she struggled big time yesterday.

Horse To Follow Today is:
GEELONG RACE 7 NUMBER 11 HOSTAGE TO FORTUNE
Very keen on this one today on a dry surface. Forget his last two starts, had no luck in either. Small field today, weak race, Williams is riding, looks the winner.

TheNudge

 wrote Aug 11 2010 at 11:44pm2010-08-11 23:44:48

Very ordinary yesterday. The horse to follow is Skateboard but he'll be about $1.60.

The Horse To Follow Today is:
GEELONG RACE 4 NUMBER 3 DODGE TIDE
This bloke was disappointing last start when he controlled the race in front but found zilch in the straight. I'll put it down to the heavy track. Today he has a dry track, handy barrier, should get a cosy run, Olly sticks with him which is a good sign, will prove hard to beat.

Horse To Follow Today is:
GEELONG RACE 8 NUMBER 5 OKUMA
This bloke is loving the Synthetic surface and his last start effort just makes him a special here. He ran Cougat King to 3/4L and that bloke came out and bolted in on Wednesday.Today Arnold will slot in somewhere and with an ounce of luck, he'll be spanking this field today.

bit disappointing aye Steels? Had his chance to round up Allanthus, just no good in the end. Maybe looking for the paddock or perhaps a better barrier to sit near the pace? Havent had a chance to look at Sunday Eagles, I'll get back to you on that one.

Horse To Follow Today is:
COLERAINE RACE 4 NUMBER 7 LEMONADE PARTY
Ran a really good race on Sunday I thought. He loomed up big time at the 800m but fitness found him out in the end. He should be cherry ripe for today's race, the key to him today is that he has upside while the others are nearly at the end of their campaigns.

Horse To Follow Today is:
NARROMINE RACE 7 NUMEBR 2 THE INVINCIBLE ONE
Has been very good in Sydney this campaign with a win and a couple of placings. Gave Flaming Rock a real race last start and on that form alone he should beat this field. The weight isnt a concern, as is the heavy track. If he keeps up his good form, the Narromine Cup will be his.

Horse To Follow Today is:
GEELONG RACE 1 NUMBER 5 CHAFIA
When this horse ran fifth two starts back, I immediately blackbooked it because it was very unlucky not to win the race. Then I dont know what happened last start, got back but didnt come on. To say this field is weak is an understatement. Small field suits, as does the engagement of Luke Nolen. Should be good value and if she re produces her run two starts back, she'll win.

Horse To Follow Today is:
GEELONG RACE 4 NUMBER 4 HOLDER
This bloke has been getting better with experience and he showed that last start with an eye-catching fifth behind Censor, an above average type. This is a weak race and if he brings his A-game and if Bossy rides the horse cold, he'll be finishing over the top at good odds.

Horse To Follow Today is:
GEELONG RACE 1 NUMBER 11 MARKED DANGER
He has shown ability so far. It was a very heavy track last start and he had no peace in front and was found wanting in the end. Firmer track today, Rodd sticks, not an overly strong race, may be a tad short but should go close to winning.

TheNudge

 wrote Aug 24 2010 at 11:12pm2010-08-24 23:12:26

Horse To Follow Today is:
SANDOWN RACE 6 NUMBER 6 MISS ALIA
Travelled well last start but condition gave out late. I suspect she might need this run as well (nominated for the Cups) but this is a weak race. She has plenty of upside about her whilst the others are nearly at the end of their campaigns. It'd be a good idea just to have a saver on her because she will be hitting the line strongly.

TheOutsider

 wrote Aug 25 2010 at 8:40am2010-08-25 08:40:36

I have a good opinion of Miss Alia as well Nudge, but you have to consider the track conditions - Heavy 10 at Sandown Hillside - She is no genuine super mudlark wet tracker so a Heavy 10 was never the go. Likes the sting out yes. Also a real dour Mare - Mile and a half is her go. Wouldn't think she had the brilliance and class for the City Cups - but something in the lead up or Country Cup perhaps. Love to see her up here for the Bendigo Cup with a bit of rain around.
Keep up the good work - nice to see some analysis behind your comments rather than just "this fly going up the wall".

TheNudge

 wrote Aug 25 2010 at 10:22pm2010-08-25 22:22:38

Yeah, wasnt expecting it to be a Heavy 10, but she still ran on ok. She could be a smokey for the Bendigo Cup, but realistically she is better suited in those Moonee Valley grindathons at the night meetings. She rellished that last prep and maybe could do the same.

GOSFORD RACE 3 NUMBER 12 PRINCE OF MONACO
Raced on the speed at Newcastle on debut last start and finished eighth, beaten just under three lengths after racing wide throuhgout. Gosford suits on pace runners and with a firmer track today for this son of More Than Ready plus the 2kg claim for young Jessie Whipp which makes her carry only 52.5kg, he looks great value.

GEELONG RACE 2 NUMBER 4 PRINCE VLADMIR
I have been following this bloke since day one and he has gotten better with experience. His last start was good considering he had little luck in the straight. Hayes' horses are flying on the Synthetic at the moment and with nine weak opponents, he might be worth an e/w ticket.

I thought his first up run was good, even though he finished 11th. He meets the winner just over 5kg better at the weights this afternoon and from the barrier he should ease back and be saved for one final run. He is 11 years old, but age doesnt stop horses eg Mustard and Mindreader. Definite value chance.

He wont be paying back the $2.2 million that Singo forked out for him, but with time he'll be winning a listed race. Needed the run first up on the bog track. He should press forward today and sit on the speed. Also note that a senior rider is on top today, last start Blake Spriggs rode the stallion. He'll appreciate the firm ground and although he may need this run also, he'll give plenty of cheek.

She looks pretty good value I think. Her run at Swan Hill wasnt too bad in a much stronger maiden than this. With the claim for young gun Claudia Lions, she only carries 53.5kg and on a wet track that makes a big difference. The others except for one or two are out of form so she gets her chance to win today.

Steps up to 1900m which is a huge plus, she is weighted well here and remember she has raced in Group One company in Adelaide.

He looks the best bet at the meeting tonight. His form last prep was very good over the sprint trips. Listening to an interview with Matthew Chadwick, he says the horse is a very strong railer so gate one is a massive plus. He likes to lead and he appears to get a comfy time in front tonight. He trialled well recently when winning, beating home Super Boy, who trialled really nicely. He has plenty of weight to carry but given an easy lead, he'll win.

I have two horses to follow today.

SALE RACE 6 NUMBER 9 ELITE EBONY
She hates wet tracks, her record says that so forget her Caulfield and judge her on previous form which includes a fourth behind Enzed Girl. Drops big time in class today and is on the limit. The rise in distance is a concern but on ability alone, she is the one to beat with Dan Nikolic in the saddle.

SCONE RACE 2 NUMBER 2 LIFEBELT
Tragedy to see what happened to him at Wyong. Just couldnt get a crack until the final 100m then flew home and really should have bolted in. Drawn perfectly in gate one, he should sit just off the pace and the field he is up against arent good. He deserves to win and today should be his day.

Horse To Follow Today is:
SEYMOUR RACE 8 NUMBER 13 AMHERST
I liked the way he closed off last start. The stewards report says he lost his near fore and near hind plates so that adds a bit more merit to his run. Three placings from four starts when racing second up, same stats on a heavy track, two placings from two at Seymour, drawn well, ace rider Michael Walker is riding and being on the limit, he should prove hard to beat.

Horse To Follow Today is:
MORPHETTVILLE RACE 1 NUMBER 6 HULA DANE
Forget he went around behind Titch. The track was bottomless and he cant handle that. He was pretty good the start before at Coleraine where he won by six lengths. With the exception of the topweight, this is an ordinary field and with luck running, I think this bloke may get up at odds.

Horse To Follow Today is:
SANDOWN RACE 4 NUMBER 8 MISS ALIA
Surely she cant lose today. Plenty to like about her run last start behind Crabs, again just needing the run. She strikes a firmer surface today, steps up to 3000m (placed over the distance at Moonee Valley) and meets a very weak race. She is the best horse in the race and should prove it on the line.

Horse To Follow Today is:
CANTERBURY RACE 3 NUMBER 5 PHENOMONAL LASS
Liked the way she raced last time in and proved she will do the same this prep with a solid first up effort behind Grand Rhumba in the dash for cash at Newy on Cameron Handicap Day. She is fitter, and she'll appreciate racing at Canterbury, where she has had success. There appears to be plenty of early speed so that is a problem but if Blake gets her in to get cover, she'll be right in the finish.

Nudge you exactly right with the speed ! I am expecting a hell for leather breakneck speed which may impact on the horse with the best figures in Magic weekend. Had ok figures last start behind Thankgodyou'rehere who was outstanding off only a moderate speed, Griffon had every chance that day and i it's looking as though Griffon may struggle to get a strong 6 furlongs.
Tired horses may fall back onto magic weekend but if he get's clear running then he should be winning.
Budabar didn't fire first up on a heavy track last time in, class runner and could run over the top of Magic weekend. Good luck nudge !

Phenomonal lass needs two things to win a dry track which it's gets and to lead and control the race which is impossible imo.

Poor ride by Josh Adams last night on Magic Weekend.

Horse To Follow Today is:
RANDWICK RACE 1 NUMBER 4 STREETFIGHTER
Five horse field, anything can happen. This bloke was very good in the Newy Cup, he was going to win on the home turn but fitness beat him. He will be 100% ready to go and speaking to Terry Mathrick (trainer) on Thursday, he sounded confident that the horse can cause a major upset here.
