Anybody around here follow the American sports? I know that the NBA and NHL are finishing up for the season but the MLB and NFL are both just getting started.
I've always liked the NBA and got into the MLB last season.
If there are any fans of NFL or MLB out there, we should start a thread for them respectively.
I'm going to get one going for the MLB since the season has got rolling already. And I should start one for the NFL too, the draft is coming up and I'd like to hear some thoughts on the upcoming season.

NFL = I love it!!!! My favourite sport and I have the day off today to watch the draft. If the appeals court upheld the ruling other day and free agency starts today with draft it is going to be absolutely crazy! I hope they get an EBA sorted out soon and we don't miss any weeks if the season. I'm also a mad Ravens fan. Watch the MLB but don't know enough to gamble heavily on it ( I'm a long suffering Cubs supporter) A few other people like these sports and it would definitely pay to get a thread going

dener im a bit of a fan of the ravens did you see the stuff up with the bears? hoping they can bring an agressive offense to match there brilliant defence this season.

Watched the draft for three days. I blame the bears for that stuff up, typical of the bears franchise. In the end all that happened was we were screwed out of the bears 4th round pick. Cam Cameron the offensive co-ordinator needs to get more aggressive on his play calling and get Flacco to throw the ball around. We have great veteran WR's and Flacco is entering his 4th season so (if he is going to be our franchise QB) he should be ready to peak this season. Instead of taking a WR in the second round I wouldn't of minded taking a Offensive Linesman to help give Flacco the time he needs to throw the ball. I just hope the season starts on time.

Can anyone explain this threat by the players to decertify? How does that improve their bargaining position?

I'll try but I'm not sure I really understand it all.
By decertifying, the conflict is then bound by anti trust laws rather than the labour law that obliges players to collectively bargain. From what I read, the players will leave the union in order to sue the NBA under anti trust law. They can argue that the owners locking them out is some sort of collusion or group action that denies them their money. They can also bring up the salary cap and draft etc. If they decertify, then the players can put together a class action or sue them individually for loss of earnings or restraint of trade etc.

So the way I read it is that the players are threatening to sue the owners and force their hand at the negotiating table. It takes 60 days to decertify the union after they have votes etc. And that's before they get to court. If that all happens then the season is slipping away.
