Hobart Thousand Heats - Tonight - 8/12/2011

The stars head to Hobart tonight for the Heats of the $75,000 to the winner Hobart Thousand. Among the runners are Melbourne Cup winner Dyna Tron, Radley Bale, Allen Elroy and the local star Damek. Its sure to be a huge night of racing in the states south.

Ill run through a preview of each heat below.

Local star DAMEK has been handed a favorable draw in one of the weaker heats. He will start with a vacant box on his outside and should have no problems leading this field with brilliant early pace. He is 2 different dogs when he is able to lead and when he isn't and im expectin a comfortable win for him here. The danger could be the other quick local MOJITO, with a super time of 25.81 to his name he is more than capable on his night. He lacks the toe to go with DAMEK early though so that could be his undoing. Of the others i will throw in the raider WITHCOTT WARRIOR to run home into a place.

The former local star REWIND gets his chance here tonight. Drawn the red he will get every conceivable chance to win. He is proven on the track with a slick win in 25.88 and he will be a good bet at around the $3 mark. His biggest competition is the Victorian raider ALLEN ELROY, 2 starts ago he ran 3rd in the Melbourne Cup behind Dyna Tron which is exceptional form for this race. He is having his first race start at the track though and will have to get over from his wide box to be in the finish. Of the others both CENTENNIAL PARK and BIT REGAL will be charging home at the end, while they may not have any winning chances they are definitely players for trifectas and first fours.

In what looks the weakest heat on the night CLYDES ANGEL from box 8 has to go on top, he has a win in 26.03 to his credit and has had 4 starts at the track for 3 wins and a placing. INNISFREE MISS is the only dog capable of causing any problems for the pink but i think may have to settle for 2nd prize. It looks a clear exacta with maybe a dog like DASHER DOOLEY or MEGASTAR SPARGO filling the trifecta spot but a long way off the leader.

This is only one of two full fields for the night but it will have no effect, DYNA TRON has brilliant box speed and will be off and gone on the corner and win in sensational fashion. The Graham Bate trained ALLEN LAWSON should be filling the quinella spot and these two have a class edge over the rest of the field. From the pink LORINGO should get a cart over into the race and be fighting it out for the minor prizes as it has a very quick time of 26.02 to its name.

With any luck RADLEY BALE will be winning this race, he has a clear class edge over his rivals and will be strong at the end, with the red being a fast starter he should be able to get a good run up behind him. The nearly 5yo FISHERMAN is the blowout dog, he has early pace and has been contesting this class for years. He should be able to lead from the red and that puts him in a good position if there is any bad luck back in the pack. The Mick Stringer trained NEW RECRUIT is the only other winning chance, an ever consistent dog with a time of 26.05 to his name he is capable if RADLEY BALE meets bad luck.

Box draw is going to be the key here, there are only 3 winning chances in DAVID BALE, MISS ROMAN KNOWS and WANDY NEG. DAVID BALE has drawn the red and i believe that will be the key to him winning this race, if he holds his spot to the first corner he wins. MISS ROMAN KNOWS has drawn the worst of the 3 in box 3 but she does have great box speed to her credit, her chances will be won and lost at the start, if she pings and leads she is going to be very hard to beat, if she doesnt she will struggle to fill a place. WANDY NEG on the other hand has drawn out wide in the pink, she will stay out of trouble and put in a good performance but may have to rely on neither of the other 2 jumping to the lead.

SHEREEN BALE has been slightly disappointing her last 2 starts as odds on favorite. She draws perfectly in box 8 again but if she doesnt cross easily from out there she may be in some trouble again because there are 2 extremely quick and strong dogs in this race who will cause big problems for her. BERGERMEISTER is the track record holder at 25.71 and on his night is a booming dog who is impossible to beat. DECEMBRIST is the brother to local star Damek but is an extremely good dog in his own right. He will be a bit slow early but hits the line very hard so if he can pick his way through the field will be in the top 3 without a question. PIPPI'S GOLD is a very consistent dog who im sure will put in an admirable performance as well but will have to settle for minor money i think.

The only thing certain in this race is that either Dailly or Bate will be winning it. DYNA BERT and ALLEN HERTZ both have a clear class edge on the rest of this field and one of them will be winning it, from a betting perspective i seem to think DYNA BERT will be the better odds so is probably the way to go, the best bet though would be to take the quinella or box up the exacta though because they hold a clear edge on this field. PORTRAIT IGNITES is a funny one, he has a time of 25.96 to his name which is sensational but he hasn't come close to running that since. He wont have his own way here so i think will struggle to get near that time again. He still has to be thrown in as the clear 3rd pick though.
