Discuss the 2011 Cox Plate here. Which horse do you think will win the race and why?

Helmet will be odds on come Saturday!! When he wins, i reckon anyone that didn't back him will ask themselves why they didn't spot the best bet of the century.

I've got Helmet running around at odds of 50/1 and I think I'm gonna have another go at the $3.50 lol lol. If he gets the 2000m he wins pure and simple. Exacta's are with no's 5, 9, 12, 14. Don't look past the obvious

Nice one MelbMan, i wish i had him at 50/1. The best i could get for Helmet was 8/1 but couldnt help myself and piled everything else into the 3.25. Good luck on the obvious mate and try and get at least an hours sleep friday night.

Had a long hard think about this race. HELMET and GLASS HARMONIUM will both enjoy soft runs on the speed. HELMET will click up at the 600m and remember he gets 7-9kgs on most of these. He will get them off the bit as he goes for home and with this weight advantage they just wont catch him. He has been running faster times than the open G1 races on the same day and if you have not seen him in the flesh - trust me he is a BIG BOY! GLASS HARMONIUM has the best exposed performed WFA form this prep. Very consistent and holding his rating. REKINDLED INTEREST gets a nice soft midfield run and will get on the back of PLAYING GOD/AVIENUS as they go early on the 'wave'. REKINDLED should be the best of the chasers. EFFECIENT closed better than REKINDLED INTEREST last start and he goes in all my multiples. If its survival of the best stayer he will get them. KINGS ROSE is a query over 2000m but again should get a great run and can be in the money.

Ha ha, every cat with a heartbeat has had a long hard think about this race! There is an even pace now most likely in this race and a depth in class, so a Maldivian larceny can be ruled out! Thank Hird for that! GLASS HARMONIUM has to be a serious place bet, but I reckon he will be bettered by at least one of these. But he is fit and will take much beating. Watch the Turnbull run again if you have any doubts. HELMET? I will shed tears if this son of Exceed & Excel wins a Cox Plate. Even accidental hero MANHATTAN RAIN was sired by Encosta, so I have 'laid' this quality 3yo! I may cause property damage if he wins, to compond my losses!! AVIENUS will hopefully beat him home! REKINDLED? Loves the track and distance, blinkers will see him settling in the first half I reckon and that is the intention for introducing them now I feel, he will settle near JIMMY and I cannot split these home, but both are cherry ripe for this and will be harder to beat than a frozen egg. I hope. :o)

everybody saying helmet is a moral is delusional. yes helmet may end up winning the cox plate because he's a very, very good horse but a moral ? no...he has yet to run at 2040m let alone win at 2040. so how can a moral be untested at the race distance ? i suspect everybody who is declaring "helmet a moral" are the same people who lost on december draw last week.

the only way i could bet helmet if it were pre post, like melbman above who's got him at 50's with no real risk.

"NEW Zealand trainer John Bary yesterday accused Australian racegoers of not showing four-year-old Jimmy Choux enough respect, but says that will change if he wins the $3 million Cox Plate at Moonee Valley.

Jimmy Choux stunned clockers with a scintillating gallop little more than 60 hours before the weight-for-age championship, going against usual training conventions.

Observers shook their heads in disbelief as Jimmy Choux reeled off 600m in 34.85sec, his last 400m in a blistering 22.5sec. Cox Plate rivals Helmet and Glass Harmonium ran the last 400m of their respective gallops 3sec slower."

Confidence is varied with Helmet (he has a lot of knockers in Australia doesn't he?) - but with Jimmy confidence is growing ..

i don't know if there is any confidence for jimmy , he's out to 5.50 ,with the bookies willing to take him on.sportsbet has him at 5.50 and money back for 2nd .think i might take it just lacking in confidence

I just spoke to Helmet this morning and asked him if he thinks he can sprint the full 2040 and he said " yep no worries! ". I then asked if he is worried about his rival Jimmy Choux, and he said "dont you mean Jimmy Poo"

Kings Rose on top. Perfect draw here and hard to knock recent form, races best on good/dead, won only go here and is 2/2 this distance.

Helmet for 2nd. Looks the one to beat and with a postage stamp on his back will take some running down which I think may counter the distance query.

Jimmy Choux for 3rd. Class animal who will take a power of beating.

Glass Harmonium for 4th. Just got pipped in the Turnbull, hardly ever runs a bad one a must for your multiples.

Roughy, Efficient is my outsider, produces his best 3rd up. Last time in won the Turnbull 3rd run back and he will not shock if he wins this.

Kings rose and Glass harmony to quinella to race what else can I say

this is how i see the race
first of all take away the mares; unless a champion they don't have a good record
second; take away the mile horses; Wall street & Sincero
now the winner is in whats left;
Lion Tamer & Playing God will get caught 3 wide and cannot win from there
Efficient will get too far back will run home but cannot pass them all
so that leaves 4 that can win; if Helmet & Glass Harmonium run the tempo to suit then they run the quinnella, if they go too hard early they will get run down by Jimmy Choux & Rekindle Interest

Have to agree with you there surround i see the race very similar and have those 4 as my top choices.
Think KINGS ROSE is the best of the mares..sticking with PLAYING GOD think the father/son combo might have something up their sleeve still and AVIENUS and WALL STREET having run in last years COX could pick up places..always one horse that gets into the top 4 at odds. Will be taking LION TAMER too just on his run last year in the VASE.

i've got some big multi's with Playing God ,so would be glad to see him win , but i think it'll take a minor miracle .
