Breeding Sales and News

Well the Easter Sales are over and some great buys by some of the stables ..the HongKong Jockey club again shut the gate on these sales and it seems a compromise needs to be reached if the sellers are going to achieve the returns on their investments.. As it was we saw Bernadini a stallion shuttled from Kentucky USA ..this stallion from A.P.Indy who himself was one of the great stallions in America and has been retired due to age and the loss of his desire to fertilise...Bernadini had two fillies for sale one out of Sadlers Girl and the other from Gold Fair.. Bernadini has just started to have success on the racetrack with his youngsters so put these in you black book and watch how they develop I am sure they will do well here in Australia.

Like all good punters breeding is essential in assesing horses for the race ..from there breeding you can gather info on the stamina for the type of races they will win at.. its no good picking a Belle Espirit horse to run 2,400m when breeding suggest otherwise so its essential that breeding becomes part of your tipping .

Of course the N.Z stud farms did well at these sales they sold four colts and three fillys by High Chapparal a well respected stallion..the highest going for $750,000.

What a great sire Lonhro has been after chalking up bread and butter winners has know a group one to his book ..Looking at the stallion table it will be interesting if his earnings will get him over the line to become 2010/2011 champion sire for Australia.... the one thing I do notice on this that the table shows a different picture if you look at runners to winners over the season for each stallion.. it seems the earnings are taken in to account and are really not a true reflection of the stallions record.. an example is High Chaparral who without So You Think earnings.. would be way down the list..I will post in the next few days the table of top stallions.

Lonhro is on top off the sires table not only with the most earnings but equal with Redoubte's Choice in stake winners (12) so far Lonhro has had 217 runners with an incredible 113 winners followed by High Chaparral 50 runners 27winners earnings $17,000 behind Lonhro ..So You Think boosting this tally for him ......Redoubte's Choice is next followed by More Than Ready and Commands..it is a close one for the Champion Sire Title..

Will are going to take a peek at the Qld Oaks and see how the pedigree line up in this race..
Divorces ..class but its sire of the dam Octagonal not one to produce stayers in great form take on trust.
HiddenKisses ..pedigree shows know form for this but has Hidden Dragon as a top sire.
Fribillation.. her sire won a C.C. and dam won over 2000m+ very strong stamina
Fillydelphia ..not really bred to stay but won a stakes race
In a Tangle ..not bred on stayers lines but could surprise with Brown riding
Becerra.. bred for this so distance should hold up well
Savannahs.. Choice well bred as 2400m filly half sister to Cesario two times oak winner( Japan and USA]
Driving Reign.. can stay but more on the plodding lines
I Walk the Line.. no suggestion of stayers in her pedigree
Tropicana Girl.. more bred for speed and shows very little in the staying side
Heidilicious.. bred to stay all day has Danehill in the mix of blood line High Chapparal
Shez Sinsational ..well bred stayer from N.Z will get the distance and has the top jock Opie Bosson
Crafty Lady ..Crafty Lady who sire wona AJC Derby trained by Shiela Laxon who won this race in 2001
Nayana...by a speed sir
Black Sparta.. by Makybe Divas Sire so should run this out
Jahre Encosta ..sired on the speed lines

Well its back the fight for the champion sire and Lonhro is well in the running after Jerezana won the Listed Ramornie Stakes..This became the thirteen listed stakes winner for Lonhro in the 2010/2011 season and joins Redou tes Choice and Encosta Delago...this takes his earnings this season to $8.4 mill..

There is no doubt with Frankel winning that Danehill for the sixth year in a row will take out the dam sire title ..Frankel out of Galileo from a Danehill mare Kind wrapped up a great season for Galileo ...this sire alone has had eigth group ones this season....Danehill is a name well respected in the breeding industry and with winners like Frankel will be a force for a long time to come.

With the season closing and the jockeys starting to celebrate with the trainers on there premeirship wins we take a look at the stallions and Lonhro leads with the most winners at this stage and on Monday we should have the highest money earner... as for the dam it will be close here in Aust but we will just wait and see.Watch this space for the update.

Lonhro has taken out the champion sire title with earnings of $8.7 million and a total of 129 winners from 237 runners..Commands had the highest winning tally of winners 155 from 326 runners...Last years champion Redoute's Choice finished second with earnings of $7.4 million.....Second Season sire was Stratum with earnings of $3.1 Million with 143 runners and 61 winners...Snitzel again has come second with earnings of $2.5 million ..75 runners 36 winners

The prestigious The Centaine Award was given to Pins it honours the N>Z stallion with a global earnings of $11million for progency winners..all up he lays claim to 41 stakes winners to his name with a strike rate of winners to runners ratio of 67,2%.....Thorn Park became N>Z champion sire with earnings of $3milliom...The Centaine Award is only given to stallion for runners on the world stage and just go to show how the breeding in N>Z is to the industry as a whole and an important award for the N>Z breeders. Congratulations to all concerned.

Redoute's Choice has kicked this season of with a flying start{4 winners again on Sat}The tally now stands at 50 runners /15 winners for earnings of $320,815....we have Choiser /Commands/Encosta DeLago all on ten or more winners.

There's a cross that is firing with 100% of runners being winners ..Bel Esprit/Snippets...two of the standouts have to be Bel Sprinter and Black Caviar who both carry the blood on their dam side .. Bel Esprit
has a great record with dams carrying the Snippets blood line and is worth following in the buying /betting or breeding for the future.

On the note of Snippets we have Redoute's Choice who clocked up a nice win with Lemiux who won at the Gold Coast on Sat,,,it seems the Snippets cross could work wonders for this stallion a very interesting year in the breeding as Australia has some great stallions on the farms and Dams to match.

The two yr olds have started getting named and we look at a few to follow in the coming year...Slipper Dream from Redoubte's Choice/Shalt Not a fullbrother to Amelias Dream who won the golden slipper in 2008 and had her career cut short.. will Slipper Dream be the next slipper winner?
Rex is a Star from EncostaDeLago/Sliding Cube ...three quarter sister to Manhattan Rain.
Sleep Jean filly from Bernadini/Homecoming Queen.

If you think of buying a stayer for the future then the Magic Millions sale at Bundall on Oct19 and the 20th could give you this beautifully bred Red Ransom-Danehill Lass your answer ..the 200m time trail showed a time of 10.47s but this is no indication as this horse will need patience and lightly raced until the age of 4yrs,..There's not much to say about the sire Red Ransom as we all know how good he is and as for Danehill Lass ..well as a broodmare carrying the legendary name what more can you ask.

Exceed and Excel.. its noted that no stallion since he went to stud... from 2008 he has had 167 two year old winners over that period and his nearest rival Invicible Spirit some 41 winners behind... and to top it of he has even sired more 2 yr old winners in a season' then his sire the legendary Danehill.

Jimando is the 42nd individual stakes winner for leading Danehill sire Commands and hails from a truly international family. He was bred by John Muir's Milburn Creek Thoroughbred Stud.

His dam(Finko), a daughter of Caerleon, won at 2600 metres in France and she is from a Group One winning mare by Blushing Groom (Rosefinch).

Jimando's third dam Oh So Sharp was the European Champion filly of her generation by winning the Group One treble of the English St Leger,One Thousand Guineas and Oaks.

Nice sale coming up after the Churchill Downs meeting in Kentucky and we may see some well bred mares heading our way...surprising a lot of people do not realize that U>S>A mares have made a great contribution to Australian racing ..Australian and New Zealand broodmare owners have done outstandingly well with North American-bred mares in recent years. This year alone, American-bred mares in Australia have produced group stakes winners Smart Missile, Zavite, Foxwedge, Running Tall, Hot Snitzel, Lovemelikearock, Paddy O'Reilly and More Strawberries.

Montijeu sadly passed away at the age of 16yrs and as Michael Kinane said"He was a really outstanding racehorse and that win in the King George it was a privileged to be on board as he treated his rivals with contempt that day.." an outstanding stallion in producing some notable winners here in Australia .
