I heard a rumour that on monday life bans will be handed to atleast 4 players involved in the penalty goal betting incident in north Qld - Mason,Thurston,Tandy,Payne are the names that i have been told - has anybody heard if this is correct.
for those that pay attention it is quiet clear that the mother of all evils is speculation ,leveraged thoughts .....!!!!!!!!!!!......here is some food for thought
1.tandy has a track record of gambling and bending the rules
2.the NRL have been very smart when any information on this case has been released to the public all 3 major announcments released coincide with big headlines....eg....the day of major flooding in brisbane cbd !!!!
3.after the announcments late last year rumours have it that the nrl regretted getting in ray murrihy to investigate the tandy affair as it exposed the rabbit hole as very deep and it also exposed that other OZ codes have big big problems that go right to the top(they didnt realise the extent of resources that murrihy had at hand)
4.AFL start expressing through out all media that they have officers assigned to picking up betting patterns and they are as close to perfect as you could get
5.jonathon thurston and craig moore both get arrested on the same day..... a few days after media starts to get out of control in regards to players bettting in sport
6.through out lots of forums punters are always complaining aout something not being right in the nrl especially with referees
7.10 's of millions of dollars are wagered on one(single) NRL game world wide
who knows ,all i know is the longer it drags out the worst it is for the NRL

I hope those pills in your photo are for paranoia!!
nah, just a bit of critical thinking & being unplugged
you have drawn some long bows!! But i agree I bet their sorry they ever got Murrihy involved. If Tandy is the only footballer they have footage of placing bets on NRL games throughout the year I'll walk naked down Pitt street
indeed.......just observations ,also there is a bit of a track record in the nrl for players playing past their used by date because they are in debt ,
Dener, I don't think the BIGGEST problem is Tandy placing bets on NRL games. Definatley a big issue but not the BIGGEST one. The real issue is him placing bets on the opposition to score points, and then being right in the thick of the two incidents that gave them a scoring opportunity. It's one thing for a jockey to bet on his horse, it's another to bet on an opponent and then cause interference in the straight.
Plenty of player's fathers/uncles have won on first try scorer and margin betting before (whole teams have done it ie the Broncos, Saints....), but probably not on first points penalty when their son/nephew drops the ball and gives away the penalty in front of the sticks.........
Walking naked down Pitt St won't be an issue. There are plenty of pubs/Tabs in the Eastern and Southern suburbs of Sydney (where all the players live) that take plenty of bets from footballers on many things.
The NRL are looking at the long sell by getting in Murrihy. It helps them get a better slice of the corporate betting market which could be worth $20 million a year to the NRL. By getting right into the mix with dodgy betting incidents they stand a better chance of getting more from the betting operators (who blew up this "fix").

you think they got cold feet when they relalised everyone new about the plunge??
If I was involved I would've shat my daks when I read the saturday paper. That's assuming something was happening..... *disclaimer
Only a moron could think nothing was happening, so for it not to come off either they pulled the plug or someone stuffed it up.

I would strongly doubt from what D Gallop said today that anything will happen on Monday.
Did someone say NO-BALL same thing if you ask me i've now had my last bet on league and cricket , I do recall one match involving the brisbane lions the regular full back was switched to full forward with all the relatives of the players cleaning up the first goal scorer at 100 /1 nice sting from a couple of golden boys.
If you read the papers then nothing is legit.........
Tennis - mafia involved, dodgy retirements
Soccer - Currently a huge investigation going on in Europe,
Cricket - haha Ireland beat England the other day.
AFL - Tanking.
NRL - spot betting from leaked team info
Horse racing - where do we start? dodgy rides or drugs or jockey changes?
Harness - see horce racing
Dogs - see harness
NBA - refs betting on games, did anyone see what the Pistons did last week?
I still think that many of the "fixes" are just bets from inside info and have to be treated a bit differently given the current rules. A fix is when someone is running dead or manipulating the result, a sting is when you know something the others don't.
One example is the game last year between Tigers and Storm, which is apparently under investigation. A huge plunge came for the Tigers to beat the spread. This plunge corresponded with a rumour that the Storm would not field their nominated team due to injury and would have late replacements. This rumour was no secret, it had been broadcast on TV and radio earlier in the day. Under NRL rules the team does not have to be named until one hour before kickoff and late changes happen all the time.
They don't guarantee a result, although obviously an advantage could be gained by having access to the info. And of course no rule is broken by announcing the team late - all clubs want to give injured players every chance to prove their fitness, and keep the opposition in the dark about tactics/game plans.
A current NRL player was involved in a spot plunge many years ago. This guy used to regularly come off the bench, but one morning the coach told him he would be the starting hooker that arvo. His team won an early penalty and the player duly nipped out of dummy half first chance he got and scored a try from 10m out. His brothers, uncles, and mates did very well by snapping up the $81 on offer for 1st try scorer.

Agreed...same as it always was and will be I'd say.. I read this book about a bloke named Jack Molinas who rigged college basketball, then the NBA back in the 50s/60s...then he got busted and rigged the jail he was held in! Great book! Cant remember the name tho I think it might be the JAck Molinas Story...Not very original...haha
College basketball is in full swing right now.
Google "college basketball point shaving" and you'll find plenty of stuff.

dr.whiz......fix/sting =gambling bigger than the game itself and that =big joke/problems
in all seriousiness though watch the NRL this year, most times a side gets behind on the score card the refs will start favouring the side behind on the score and subsequently they start getting all the 50 /50 calls go their way ,oh and dont forget bill harrigan s decision last year as video ref ,talk about in your face !!!!!
I will say it ..........no way in the world harrigan could get that wrong %100

I don't think a fix and a sting are the same thing. A sting is betting on an unraced 2yo, a fix is Fine Cotton.
Which Harrigan decision are you talking about? The GF?

clear seperation of about 30 cm ........gasnier try 30th min ,saints v manly ,maybe round 14 or something like that,it is clear as daylight no way any human being could get it wrong ....also remember harrigan was dropped from origin as video ref in 2009 for contentious decisions ,we see an individual with a track record of making bad decisions and i mean real blatant ones all of a sudden promoted to over see NRL refreeing in 2011.......cant remember the grand final one you are talking about ????................for the record i still think harrigan was the best refree the NRL has ever seen!!
Don't forget Boxing dr.whiz. That Green fight awhile back was so sus that Sportsbet gave me back my coin.
Amir Khan losing 2 points for a push arrrrggghhhhh!!!! If I didn't like boxing I would think it sucked.
